Princess Diana has become an icon of style and fashion, and many women around the world have been trying to follow in her footsteps when picking items for their wardrobes, and royal ladies are no exception. Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, have echoed Princess Diana in their outfits on multiple occasions and paid subtle tributes to the style of the Princess of Wales in many ways, from choosing similar colors and silhouettes to wearing her favorite jewelry. And each time this is done, it looks tasteful, elegant, and truly heartwarming.

We at Bright Side recalled 11 times when Kate and Meghan channeled the fashion style of the gorgeous Princess Diana, and we hope you enjoy this little journey through royal fashion.

Diamond and pearl earrings

Kate Middleton chose a very special pair of earrings to accessorize the look she wore to a red carpet event on February 10, 2019. The Duchess wore diamond and pearl earrings that belonged to Princess Diana, and they looked fabulous with the white one-shoulder dress. Princess Diana wore these earrings on several occasions. In the picture below, you can see she was photographed wearing this beautiful set at a gala event in 1995.

A polka-dot dress for the royal baby debut

The Duchess of Cambridge channeled princess Diana on July 23, 2013, when she and Prince William showed the world their newborn baby boy, Prince George. Kate was wearing a light blue polka-dot dress that resembled the loose polka-dot dress of a green color Diana wore when she and Prince Charles revealed their son, Prince William, on June 22, 1982.

A red dress for the royal baby debut

Kate Middleton echoed Diana’s maternity look once again when she chose a red dress with a white lace collar to wear when she left St Mary’s Hospital after giving birth to her third child, Prince Louis, on April 23, 2018. Her look mirrored the outfit Princess Diana was wearing for the royal baby debut on September 17, 1984, when she and Prince Charles showed the world their son, Prince Harry. Both dresses had a saturated red hue and contrasting white collars.

A white dress with navy blue piping

Princess Diana’s white skirt suit with navy blue piping from 1995 inspired Kate Middleton to wear an elegant white coat dress with piping during the Order of the Garter service in 2019. Both women accessorized their looks with dazzling pearl earrings.

A floral dress

During her visit to Princess Diana’s memorial garden in 2017, Kate Middleton found a subtle and elegant way to pay tribute to her late mother-in-law. The Duchess of Cambridge donned a floral dress with a bow that channeled the blue floral dress Diana herself wore back in 1981 during her wedding rehearsal.

The Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara

The Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara was originally created for Queen Mary in 1913. Later, it was worn by Queen Elizabeth II, who gave this tiara to Princess Diana as a wedding present. Now the Duchess of Cambridge is often seen wearing this tiara made of diamonds and pearls. In the picture above, you can see that she was photographed wearing it during a state banquet at Buckingham Palace in London in 2018. The image below shows a smiling Princess Diana with the Cambridge Lover’s Knot Tiara on her head during a dinner in Washington, D.C. in 1985.

Butterfly earrings

In 2018, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, paid a sweet jewelry tribute to Princess Diana during her tour around Australia when she wore golden butterfly earrings that were once worn by her late mother-in-law. The picture below shows the Princess of Wales wearing the pair of butterfly earrings in 1986 during her trip to Canada.

A white suit with an elegant white cap

The elegant white suit paired with a stylish white cap that Meghan wore at the 2019 Commonwealth Day service very much echoed the military-style white suit worn by Princess Diana during a parade in 1987. That day, the Princess of Wales was dressed in a white suit by Catherine Walker with golden epaulets and frogging along with an elegant white cap.

A pink dress

Another moment when Meghan recreated (intentionally or not) Princess Diana’s look was in 2018 when the Duchess of Sussex stepped out in a powder pink dress by Prada during a Buckingham Palace reception. The pink suit by Versace that the Princess of Wales is wearing in the picture below gives strong vibes of elegance and chicness, and its silhouette resembles that of Meghan’s dress.

A sequin dress

The sequin dress of a deep blue color that the Duchess of Sussex chose as one of her pregnancy outfits in 2019 reminds us of a dazzling sequin dress that was worn by the Princess of Wales in 1990. That jaw-dropping sequin look of Princess Diana’s was one of her boldest, and it seemed to push the boundaries of royal fashion back then.

An off-the-shoulder pink gown

Both Meghan and Diana look gorgeous in off-the-shoulder outfits, and the color pink suits them well. It becomes quite obvious when you look at these 2 photos. The one above shows the Duchess of Sussex wearing a pink dress with bare shoulders by Carolina Herrera during Trooping the Colour in 2018. And in the image below, we see the Princess of Wales sparkle in her gorgeous, pink, off-the-shoulder gown by Catherine Walker in 1987.
