Times have changed, and with that, so has the way people bring up their children. Nowadays, parents see things from a different perspective and raise kids in different ways than in the past. Generally speaking, you could say people are more open-minded when it comes to looks, styles, and appearances, but this can also be said of sharing feelings of gender belonging. And celebrities and their children are, of course, no exception.

Bright Side has researched which children of celebs have decided to make changes with the support and consent of their parents, and we’re bringing you some of their stories.

1. Pink and her daughter, Willow, 10 years old

The popular singer, Pink, has always made her opinion about supporting her children in their decisions regarding their appearance clear. At the moment, Willow, the eldest of the siblings, is the one who has wanted to try and experiment with her appearance both with the use of hair dye, as well as with haircuts and hairstyles.

The singer made her opinion on the matter even more clear by sharing the last of these photos with this caption: “I heard people were bummed about Jessica Simpson for letting her 7-year-old get her hair colored. So we thought we’d share what we did yesterday.”

2. Jessica Simpson and her daughter, Maxwell Drew, 9 years old

Maxwell is the eldest of Jessica Simpson’s children. When the young girl was 7 years old, the singer and actress allowed her to dye the lower part of her hair in a purple-pinkish tone. When this happened, many people came out to criticize the mother’s permissiveness, while others supported her in her decision, including P!nk.

3. Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith and their daughter, Willow, 21 years old

Will and Jada Pinkett Smith’s children, Jaden and Willow, tend to experiment frequently with their hair, clothes, and their appearance, in general. Both kids are now grown up, but they started experimenting at a young age.

When speaking about Willow, Jada once said, “I made a promise to endow my little girl with the power to always know that her body, spirit, and her mind are HER domain... It’s also a statement that claims that even little girls have the RIGHT to own themselves and should not be a slave to their mother’s deepest insecurities, hopes, and desires.”

4. David and Victoria Beckham and their sons, Romeo and Cruz Beckham, ages 19 and 16

The Beckhams have no problem with their children trying out new things and making changes to their appearance. Their sons, Romeo and Cruz, decided to dye their hair like their father did in the ’90s. David went on Instagram to joke about the situation, saying, “Sometimes the boys need reminding who did it first in the ’90s. By the look on their faces, they are not too pleased about it.”

5. Alicia Silverstone and her son, Bear Blu, 10 years old

Actress Alicia Silverstone’s son, Bear, grew up to have enviable long hair. The little boy loved having his hair like that, and his mother was not only supportive but shared a love for his beautiful mane.

In a post on her Instagram, Alicia stated, “He loves his hair and chooses to have it long. Mama and Papa aren’t going to stop him from being him. He’s beautiful and we love his hair! We would never impose any social ideas about what hair on a boy or girl should look like. We should all try to embrace our children and who they choose to be without any judgment!”

6. Hilary Duff and her son, Luca, 9 years old

In this case, the actress and singer used a temporary hair coloring spray to change the hair color of her son, Luca. Luca’s temporary change had a reason behind it: because the boy had an activity called “crazy hair” day at the camp he was attending.

7. Kourtney Kardashian and her sons, Mason and Reign, 11 and 6 years old

Until recently, Kourtney’s youngest son experimented with length and cuts; but years earlier, it was his brother, Mason, who sported a long bob that many people didn’t agree with. The eldest of the Kardashian sisters came out to defend her son’s hair, saying, “They really don’t need to worry about kids who aren’t their own. He’s a happy kid.”

8. Tori Spelling and her daughters, Stella and Hattie, ages 13 and 10

Stella is the oldest of the actress’ daughters and she dyed her hair for the first time when she was 7 years old. After this first attempt, the little girl continued to try different colors and combinations, a fun practice that her sister, Hattie, joined some time later. Criticism soon followed, but Tori defended her initial decision, saying, “It was a decision I made with my daughter. It was a personal choice. It was something that she wanted to do and that I agreed to do with her over the summer vacations.”

9. Milla Jovovich and her daughter, Ever, 14 years old

Ever Anderson, age 14, is the daughter of popular actress Milla Jovovich. The little girl, who is following in her mother’s acting and modeling footsteps, began coloring her hair at an early age. The girl has experimented with blue, pink, and purple shades, sometimes because of the demands of a script and sometimes by choice: “Last year I took a pair of scissors and cut my hair super short on my own and then dyed it pink. I’ve had pink hair, purple hair, and now, blue hair.”

How would you support your children in their decision to make a change?
