7 Actors Share Why They Regret Roles They’ve Played and We Didn’t Expect to See Even Iconic Characters

year ago

Making decisions is never easy, and we don’t always end up with the right choice which means later on we have to deal with it. The same is true for some actors, who regret showing up in a movie or regret the characters they played. What was most surprising for us here at Bright Side, is that most of them are movies that most of us loved watching!

We are not the only ones who can’t stand watching ourselves in videos or hearing our voice from a recording — Daniel can’t stand it either. “I never liked watching myself on film but I do make myself sit through it”, and this statement is especially true for him when it comes to his sixth Harry Potter movie because as it turns out he wasn’t a big fan in his role in that movie part.

“It’s hard to watch a film like Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince because I’m just not very good in it. I hate it. My acting is very one-note and I can see I got complacent and what I was trying to do just didn’t come across. My best film is the fifth one (Order Of The Phoenix) because I can see a progression.”

2. Kate Winslet — Titanic

It seems like Titanic will never get old and will always stay in our hearts. But maybe not so much for Kate Winslet. While she liked the movie, she wasn’t that keen on her role, especially her accent and acting.

She shared, “Every single scene, I’m like ’Really, really? You did it like that? Oh my God ... Even my American accent, I can’t listen to it. It’s awful.”

3. Halle Berry — Catwoman

Even though Catwoman is considered a superhero and a great movie that made over 82 million dollars and won a few awards, it didn’t get much praise from movie critics, and Halle Berry wasn’t pleased with her portrayal of that role either.

Mostly because she didn’t like how this woman superhero was presented, “I remember having that argument: ‘Why can’t Catwoman save the world like Batman and Superman do? Why is she just saving women from a face cream that cracks their face-off?’”

4. Zac Efron — High School Musical

The movie that made Zac Efron famous was High School Musical, but right after the first movie, he realized that it wasn’t exactly what he wanted to do. “The second we finished the first one, I was, like, 17. And I said, ‘Guys, you know this is not at all what I want to do?’ And they were like, ‘Really?’”

5. Robert Pattinson — Twilight

Even though Robert Pattinson did a great job by playing Edward Cullen in Twilight, he was actually not that in love with the character. When he was reading the book, he first thought that Edward Cullen was beautiful but at the same time the most ridiculous person who was amazing at everything. Robert shared, “The more I read the script, the more I hated this guy, so that’s how I played him, as a manic-depressive who hates himself.”

6. Jessica Alba — Fantastic Four

Jessica Alba even got the urge to quit after making the Marvel movie Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. And the main reason was that she was expected to look ’pretty’ even when she was crying. She said “The director was like, ‘It looks too real. It looks too painful. Can you be prettier when you cry?... Don’t do that thing with your face. Just make it flat. We can CGI the tears in.’”

And this made her start to question her acting abilities, “It all got me thinking, ’Am I not good enough? Are my instincts and my emotions not good enough? Do people hate them so much that they don’t want me to be a real person?’”

7. Ryan Reynolds — Green Lantern

While Ryan has been in over 100 movies there is one that he wasn’t so happy about — Green Lantern. "At the time, it was a huge opportunity for me so I was excited to try and take part in it.“...but when he compared the role with his Deadpool character he said, “Deadpool always knew what it was. With Green Lantern, I don’t think anyone ever figured out exactly what it was.”

But even though Reynolds wasn’t that happy about his role in Green Lantern, there was one thing to be happy about — he met his wife Blake Lively on the set.

What is your favorite movie? Who is your favorite actor and/or actress? Why?
