Libny is a Colombian girl who aspires to be a famous musician. But Libny is more than that; she is also a warrior who has been “fighting” prejudices since she was a child. In fact, this young woman has over 200 birthmarks on her body, something that has affected her for her entire life. She has had to overcome many difficulties but is now ready to inspire others to embrace the beauty that lies beneath the differences.

She was born with hundreds of birthmarks.

Libny Molano, now 29, lives in Bogotá, Colombia, and is a well-known musician in her home country. She was born with several unique aesthetic traits that are only shared by a small number of people in the world — her body is covered in hundreds of birthmarks.

The birthmarks Libny has can be categorized as pigmented birthmarks, which are typically benign and present at birth or develop soon after birth. A pigmented birthmark is one that differs in color from the epidermis and can range in color from brown or black to bluish or blue-gray.

Her largest and most noticeable birthmark spans 32 and a half inches from her elbow to her fingertips. The distinctive feature of this birthmark is the hair that covers the entire area of the mark.

People’s prejudices followed her throughout high school.

Libny was raised by her parents who assured her that birthmarks or not, she was just as beautiful as any other person. With the support of her loved ones, she grew up stronger and more self-assured about her beauty.

She never perceived her birthmarks as a problem or a big deal because when she was only 2 years old, her parents explained what they were. “Since the first day of my life, I’ve been handling people’s reactions but I never really noticed them because I was protected by my parents, 24/7,” she explained. Unfortunately, everything changed when she started school..

“Children have the most honest and, at the same, time cruel reactions in the world, so that changed me,” she declared, continuing, “I noticed they were afraid of me and they didn’t want to spend time with me.”

It was difficult for her and she started to feel insecure about her appearance. Libny acknowledges that the circumstance “was extremely painful and confusing because at home they always told me I was unique, and after that, I started noticing everyone’s reaction everywhere I went.”

Libny found a lifelong love who stands by her side.

Love has the power to heal our souls and guide us through difficult times in our lives. Before Libny could gain confidence and learn to accept herself for who she is, she had to overcome many challenges. However, she has found someone who has shown her how to appreciate her body without judgment or limitations.

In 2019, she met Felipe, the man who became her lifelong companion and showed her how to be loved despite any differences or outward appearance. The couple married earlier this year and are more in love than ever.

Her relationship with her husband enhanced both her life and how she perceived her body, giving her a sense of worth for the first time ever. She shares lovely words on Instagram for him, writing, “You have brought to my life health, happiness, challenges, growth, laughter, and many more things.”

She continued, “Thanks for taking on this challenge, for your courage [...] it is the first time in my 26 years that I feel loved and valued.

She is now a strong, confident woman.

After years of living in fear of the judgments and remarks of others, Libny now feels confident and unconcerned with others’ opinions. She stated, “I got tired of feeling sad and insecure and I decided to become the best version of myself and be my own superhero.”

Now that she has achieved this level of self-confidence, everyone around her, including her family, is relieved that she can finally accept herself the way they have always looked at her. “My friends and family love that I now see what they’ve always seen, and they feel so proud of me,” Libny said.

Her experiences and the difficulties she has faced have shaped her into the strong woman she is today, ready to inspire those who are in her shoes to take charge of their lives and be unafraid of the opinions of others.

“My advice is to embrace whatever makes you different and make it your best feature, we all have our own ’birthmarks’ and that’s what makes us who we are.”

Although accepting our differences may not be simple, Libny’s story can be of great assistance to those who are still working toward accepting their own beauty and loving their bodies. Libny wants to reassure them, saying, “We are all masterpieces made perfectly by a great painter, and we shouldn’t see ourselves as anything less than that.”

Have you found it difficult to accept your body? How do you deal with the prejudices of others?
