What Your Favorite “Friends” Character Can Reveal About You
It has been nearly 2 decades since the sitcom Friends aired its final episode, but the show remains popular to this day, thanks to its extremely relatable plot and characters. Each role is portrayed with such unique and realistic qualities, that it’s not difficult for us to identify with certain characters and imagine ourselves in their shoes.
Bright Side will reveal details about your personality based on your favorite person in the show, but please keep in mind that this article is written for entertainment purposes only.
1. Joey Tribbiani
If you are fond of Joey, you are probably the life of the party. The inner child in you makes you naturally charming and lovable. You are extremely spontaneous and not afraid of embarrassing yourself. There are no limits to your dreams, and you have no problems with starting from the bottom, before working your way up.
You get excited over things that you are passionate about, and the first people you share your victories with are your friends. Maybe, like Joey, you also don’t share food, but that’s a “moo” point, if you get our drift.
2. Rachel Green
Rachel was one of the boldest characters in the show, so if you are a fan of hers, you’re probably the risk-taker in the group. You value your independence and self-respect so much, that you are willing to walk out on your wedding and give up a life of luxury, when you feel like you deserve more than what is being given to you.
When people underestimate you, you strive to prove them wrong. You are ambitious in your career, and you put your heart and soul into everything you do. You have weaknesses, perhaps it’s making coffee or whipping up a Thanksgiving trifle, but you still win people’s hearts with your magnetic energy.
3. Chandler Bing
Chandler makes jokes when he’s uncomfortable, so if he’s your favorite, maybe you use humor and sarcasm as a defense mechanism for awkward situations as well. (We can almost hear him saying “Could it be more obvious?!”) Like Chandler in the earlier seasons, you might also be terrified of commitment, but at the right time, and with the right person, you will outgrow this fear.
Those who see beyond your funny deflections know that you just want to cheer your friends up when it “hasn’t been their day, week, month, or year.” They are also lucky to have you because you’ll do everything to prove how much they mean to you — even if it means staying inside a box!
4. Monica Geller
If you can relate to Monica’s character, you are probably very competitive, impatient, and extremely organized. You are most likely a perfectionist that obsesses over the tiniest details, and you always stick to the rules. But being a “Monica” also means that you are the one keeping the group together, always organizing get-togethers and offering your place for celebrations, mainly because you enjoy taking care of the people you love.
You would not think twice about dumping a millionaire, because you do not associate happiness with wealth. For you, it could be as simple as having a family and the man you love by your side.
5. Ross Geller
If you like Ross, you are the hopeless romantic, ready to make grand gestures and do everything to fight for your one true love. You are also an introvert. You are completely satisfied with just staying at home and watching TV, rather than pulling an all-nighter elsewhere. Like the paleontologist, you dig deep — metaphorically — into your thoughts, and you tend to be scientific or logical about your decisions.
Sometimes you overthink, but sometimes you also act on impulse and blurt out things like, “We were on a break!” People like Ross are also good at balancing many roles, like being a partner, a parent, a sibling, and a friend.
6. Phoebe Buffay
Phoebe may be considered the weird one in the group, but she is just being unapologetically herself, and that’s what makes her a great character. Like Phoebe, you don’t care about fitting into society’s standards, and people don’t hold it against you when you are brutally honest — only Phoebe can get away with saying, “I wish I could, but I don’t want to.”
You live by your own values and principles, and you trust signs from the universe. You are very loyal to your family and friends, and you would do anything to defend them.
7. Gunther
If your favorite character is the ever-reliable manager of Central Perk, Gunther, it means you value consistency, persistence, and diligence. You are also someone that people can depend on, just like the man with “hair brighter than the sun,” who was always there for Rachel and her friends, even if they treated him like an outsider.
You would also do anything for love — remember Gunther buying Rachel’s hairless cat, even if he didn’t understand what it was? And of course, telling her the truth about Ross and the copy girl.
8. Dr. Richard Burke
Richard, a.k.a. “Mustache Man,” seems like the ideal partner — successful, good-looking, and kind-hearted. If you identify with Dr. Burke, it means you are hardworking, meticulous, confident, and successful in your career. You are very loyal and old school when it comes to relationships. You are firm with your decisions, but willing to compromise if needed, just like how Richard opened himself to the idea of having kids again, if that was what it took to be with Monica.
9. Janice Litman-Goralnik
“Oh my God,” if Janice is your favorite, you are most likely a positive and genuinely good-hearted person. In one article, actress Maggie Wheeler described the character she portrayed as optimistic and a believer in love. Being like Janice means behaving and keeping it together, even if people treat you badly. But it does not mean that you let them take advantage of you.
In fact, you confront problems head-on and offer solutions for them, like when Janice convinced Joey to spend a day with her after she found out that he hated her. And you can laugh out loud as much as you want, because you are not ashamed of being who you are.
