10 Crochet Trends That Are Turning Autumn Fashion Into the Happiest and Coziest Season of 2026

Grief psychology has a name for something most people already understand instinctively. It’s called the continuing bonds theory, first introduced by researchers Dennis Klass, Phyllis Silverman, and Steven Nickman, and it found that holding onto a physical object connected to someone we’ve lost isn’t a sign of being stuck in grief. It’s actually a normal and often healing way to stay connected to them.
A handmade sweater carries this better than almost anything else could — every stitch is time the person spent thinking about you specifically, hours of crochet work that can’t be bought off a shelf or replaced from a thrift store. That’s exactly what makes it so devastating when a handmade piece gets damaged, and exactly why fixing it, even badly, with clumsy stitches and mismatched yarn, can matter more than getting it professionally repaired ever would.
“My most precious work. I crocheted a sweatshirt with my parents’ sheep’s wool.”
“My sister crocheted this, she’d love to hear your thoughts.”

She is talented. Great job on this Granny Square stitch. Loving the beautiful colors. This is a crocheted piece of Art!
“Made a little bear friend to hold my glasses.”

“I finished this freeform crochet coat.”
From Our Reader
My wife crocheted a cardigan for our son for school. Took her 3 months. First day back, a girl said, “Did your mom buy that from a thrift store?”
My son came home and cut it up. A month later my wife passed. At her service, I saw him wearing that cardigan. He pointed at a crooked seam on the sleeve and said, “I fixed it myself. I needed her to know I was sorry. This was the only way I had left.”
I didn’t know he’d kept the pieces. Found him at 5am in the bathroom, hunched over the sink with a needle and whatever scraps of her yarn he’d dug out of the craft basket, shaking too hard to even thread it half the time. Never sewed a stitch in his life before that morning. You can tell. One sleeve’s shorter than the other. Knots everywhere they shouldn’t be.
He wore it anyway. Didn’t say much else about it that day. I think the stitches said it for him, over and over, whatever “sorry” is supposed to sound like when the person’s not there to hear it out loud anymore.
He still wears it every winter. Won’t let me fix the crooked sleeve. Says it’s the only thing he ever made her.
Never be put down by negative people
