10 Garments From the Year 2000 That Have Become Trendy Again Today
In the year 2000, we witnessed the new millennium, and with it, all its promises of progress: technology everywhere and a sense of a new era for humanity. Although those days seem to be long gone, fashion loves to be nostalgic, and every 20 years we start to see clothes and accessories in store windows that we thought had been long forgotten.
That’s why Bright Side wants to tell you which items from the beginning of the decade are resurfacing in the present day.
1. Crocs
If there was something that characterized these sandals when we wore them a few decades ago, it was their comfort. Besides being customizable and coming in a huge variety of colors, we could wear them all day long without feeling tired.
And although this brand of clogs was about to disappear completely around 2009, now they’re back to give our outfits a comfortable feel.
2. Bucket hats
This type of hat became super famous during the ’80s thanks to hip hop, and by the 2000s, it was Jay-Z who made them fashionable on a larger scale.
Although these hats were always around, as designers have tried to bring them back, the fisherman hat has come back and settled on catwalks, streets, and the outfits of famous celebs, like Bella Hadid, Kylie Jenner, and Billie Eilish.
3. Butterfly clips
Hair accessories were a hallmark of the 2000s: the more you had on your head, the cooler you were. Butterfly barrettes came in a wide variety of colors and shapes and were so chic that they became part of celebrity hairstyles on TV and red carpets.
This touch of springtime on the manes of influencers and celebrities bloomed again this past year to give us an air of tenderness and color.
4. Low rise pants
Hated by many and loved by others, low-rise pants may have been the worst invention for those who never felt comfortable showing their belly, although many celebrities knew how to wear them with ease.
The garment that designer Alexander McQueen established and that celebrities like Christina Aguilera and Britney Spears made their hallmark — to the joy of some and misfortune of others — returned to the catwalks of fashion week in September 2020 and might very well be here to stay.
5. Cell phone pendants
2 decades ago, cell phones were a novelty that everyone wanted to have, and aesthetics were very important. The devices were decorated with rhinestone pendants of all colors and designs and even had a specific slot for that accessory.
Although today’s cell phones no longer have that option, the love for vintage styles is alive and well, and celebrities like to add this accessory to their cases to live all the aesthetics of 2000 communications but with the technology of today.
6. Tracksuits
The middle ground between fashion and comfort can be defined by the tracksuits Paris Hilton used to wear all the time. They usually came in bright colors, like pink, blue, or green, and were so famous that the brand that produced them, Juicy Couture, earned millions of dollars for this model.
But as fashion is a cycle that always comes back, like a weapon kept secret until the right moment, as the creative director of the brand once said, the tracksuit found its perfect place as they’ve become popular again.
7. Baguette bags
The small bag with a strap worn under the arm, as a Frenchman might carry his baguette, made many doubt its functionality, but curiously it was a success. Created in 1997 by the Fendi brand, this type of bag was always around, but in 2019, its creators re-launched it.
Since then, various fashion houses have made it their own with distinctive markings so that consumers can use it with any style, from the quietest casual looks to the most elegant.
8. Bandanas
Scarves and bandanas were all the rage 20 years ago, and many girls wore them as a hair accessory.
But far from being just a memory of street fashion, this scarf regained strength when the most famous designers included them in their fall-winter 2020-2021 collection catwalks to show us that they’re still a force to be reckoned with and can complement any outfit.
9. Colored glasses
The accessory that complements any outfit is officially back in the same range of colors that were used in the crazy 2000s. These colorful little glasses have already started to be seen on celebrities’ social media pages to show us that protecting yourself from the sun can be as fun as it is vintage.
10. Denim on denim
Some love it, some hate it, but no one can deny that denim on denim was the fashion trend that set the 2000s apart from any other year. The trend of wearing lots of denim together was a favorite of stars like Victoria Beckham, Naomi Campbell, and Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake, which we all saw when they combined outfits in 2001 and created one of the most memorable moments in the fashion and music world in the early millennium.
But jeans, along with shirts and jackets of the same fabric, did not stay in the past since, in 2019, it’s reared its head in various garments and styles.
What are your memories of these past years? What was your favorite garment that you wore all the time? Would you wear an outfit from the past again?
