11 Crochet Twins of Real Pets: a Puzzled Rescue Dog and a Snoot Too Long to Stand Up

Last winter I tried to crochet my neighbor’s corgi from a photo, and after two weekends it looked like a slipper with ears. The corgi carried it to his bed anyway and has refused to give it back. These 11 crochet pets look exactly like the real ones, which mine never did.

1. A Boyfriend’s Dog Had a Snoot That Grew Faster Than the Rest of Him, and the Crochet Version Got It Too

“I made a crochet version of my bf’s dog as a gift for him”

When he was a puppy his snoot seemed to grow faster than the rest of him so it has a very funny look and long, now he’s grown into it but the joke never left so I decided to implement that into the crochet piece.

I’ll tell you the best part: the nose is so long the poor thing doesn’t stand up by itself.

Nah, my boyfriend likes him as it is. My MIL also asked for one and for hers I’ll be adding a little weight at the bottom so it doesn’t fall.

2. A Cat Named Sake Got a Crochet Twin, Startled Look Included, and Here’s Why He Always Looks Like That

“I crocheted my cat, can you tell which is the real one hahaha”

Hahaha yea he doesn’t always look like that but apparently our neighbors dog has the same name and he hears his name get yelled through the wall and gets that startled look.

3. Crocheting a Girlfriend’s Curly Dog Meant Fighting Furry Yarn, and the Trick Was Not to Crochet With It at All

“Crocheted my gf’s dog furry yarn was hell to work with but so worth it!”

The tip is to not crochet with furry yarn directly. I crochet the pattern once with smooth yarn with a hook like 5 sizes too big, then I slip stitch furry yarn into the resulting holes.

From the author:

The neighbor’s corgi took me two weekends and a hook two sizes too big, because I’d read somewhere that bigger stitches look fluffier. They don’t. They look like a slipper. The ears were the only part I got right, and only because I made them four times.

4. A Rescue Dog Named Daphne Met Her Life-Size Crochet Twin and Did Not Know How to Feel About It

“I crocheted my dog. She doesn’t know how to feel about it.”

Freehand, no pattern.

She’s a rescue, and we’re pretty sure a greyhound/smooth collie mix! Maybe whippet but she’s pretty big. Good guess!

Now I want to make a life size version of myself. I don’t think Daphne would like that either.

5. A Friend’s Birthday Gift Was a Crochet Copy of Her Dog, Down to the Spots and the Eyebrow Fluff

“My friend’s birthday is coming up so I made a crochet version of her dog!”

Made my friend’s dog for her birthday!

Thank you all so much for the kind words!!! I’m super proud of this project and I cannot wait to give it to my friend. I did the body in one color then just embroidered the spots on. For the snout and eyebrow fluff, I connected short pieces of yarn to the stitches then untwisted them so they look more like long fur. It was a long tedious process but worth it!

6. A Corgi Was Asked to Pose Next to Her Crochet Look-Alike Dice Bag, and She Was Not Amused

“Corgi dice bag as requested by my husband. I don’t think our corgi is amused.”

She doesn’t like to cooperate but she gets paid well in treats.

7. A Dachshund Named Oreo Got a Crochet Copy of Himself, and It Looked a Little Too Real for His Liking

Oreo, a long-haired dachshund, received a crochet copy of himself as a gift from someone named Marisa. The twin came with the same dark curls and the same long body. The video follows Oreo sniffing it on the carpet while his family introduces the two of them. It looked, they wrote, a little too real for his liking.

“although it looked a little TOO real for his liking...”

8. Every Strand of This Crochet Dog’s Fur Was Knotted In by Hand, and It Was a Birthday Present for Mom

“I crocheted my dog”

I finally finished crocheting my dog. It took way longer than expected (especially adding the fur) and I also needed to frog it multiple times. But it was definitely worth it, I am so happy with the outcome! It was a birthday present for my mom and she loved it as well.

She was a bit suspicious at first, but with a treat she wanted to sit next to it haha.

Thank you! I actually crocheted the dog “furless” at first (using sc and hdc) and added the hair afterwards. I just “knotted” the hair in, one by one. But this was for sure not the most efficient method, it took ages.

From the author:

The corgi didn’t care about any of that. My neighbor set the slipper-with-ears on the floor to show him, and he picked it up by one ear, trotted to his bed and lay down on it. My neighbor says he still won’t let anyone near it. I’m choosing to call that a review.

9. A First Try Without a Pattern Produced a Boyfriend’s Shih Tzu, Only Slightly Grumpier

“I crocheted my boyfriend’s pet shih tzu!”

He’s not that impressive, but I’m quite happy! He actually looks somewhat like my boyfriend’s dog! I didn’t have a pattern for the head — this is the first time I’ve just winged it and figured out how to make something by myself! I’m so pleased it worked out.

I got permission, so you can all see the beautiful model. The crochet version looks a little grumpier lol, perhaps because I didn’t deign to make him full size!

Also, thank you all so much for being nice about the crochet guy!!! You’ve made me feel much better about all the little niggles and ‘mistakes’ I kept seeing in him lol.

10. A Dog and a Cat Got Matching Crochet Copies Out of the Same Yarn, Which Was Not Even Planned

“I crocheted my dog and my cat.”

Would you believe it wasn’t planned?

But being able to use the same yarn to crochet both of them is great. I can save more money and then I can buy more yarn with that money.

From the author:

When Mom heard about the corgi, she asked whether I’d be making one of her next. I said only if she could sit still for two weekends. She said she’d think about it, which in our family means no, and also means she will ask again at Christmas.

11. Someone Bet $5 That Nobody Could Tell This Black Cat From Her Crochet Twin, and It’s a Safe Bet

“Crocheted my cat — bet you $5 you can’t tell them apart in the 2nd slide”

Don’t worry, this was made last Christmas, I’m not insane decorating in October lol.

(p.s. the crochet cat is the one on the right)

The crochet cat is the one on the right, which almost nobody guesses on the first try. Still, the best review a crochet copy can get comes from the pet, the day it decides the twin is its own.

Would you want a crochet copy of your pet, and what would it be doing? Tell us in the comments.
