13 Things That Almost Nobody Noticed in the “Twilight” Saga

The Twilight franchise (2008-2012) made us fall in love with its stories and characters. We sighed with all the kisses and glances between Edward and Bella and got excited every time the production company announced the release of a new film. But what makes this saga so amazing is that, even if what we saw on the screen was already beautiful, it’s also full of little details that make the whole story even more special.

Bright Side turned on its eagle eye goggles and prepared a compilation of 13 things that happened in Twilight that you might have missed while watching the movie.

1. The apple, a symbol of a forbidden love

In the first Twilight film, there’s a scene where Bella drops an apple. Edward is the one who picks it up and when he does, he holds it in his hands in exactly the same way as what we see on the cover of the novel. Catherine Hardwicke, the film’s director, said that it took 13 shots to get the right pose. Stephenie Meyer, the author of the books that inspired the saga, explained that this apple represents Edward and Bella’s forbidden love.

2. The chess game we all wanted to have at home

In Twilight (2008), when Bella and Edward are standing together in the kitchen of the Cullen family, you can see a chess set on the table with red and white pieces. This board game is the same one that appears on the cover of Stephenie Meyer’s last novel, Breaking Dawn, which is one of the books on which the saga was based. This same board game appears again in the movie The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 (2011).

3. The wig that Lautner has no fond memories of

Taylor Lautner is one of the studs who, thanks to his great performance as Jacob Black, managed to steal our hearts. Bella’s childhood friend had long black hair and it was an important part of the characters’ look, so Taylor had to wear a wig in Twilight. “The wig, it was a very important co-star. Right now I’m not missing it much. There was hatred between both of us. It did not like me, I did not like it. Not fond memories.” Lautner said during an interview with MTV.

4. The jacket that made an entire city famous

The jacket Michael Welch wore when he brought Mike Newton to the big screen actually belongs to Forks High School. The school lent a number of supplies and attire for the shooting of the film.

Did you know that there is a festival in the town of Forks called “Forever Twilight in Forks”? It is held in September and it attracts a lot of tourists. It is a celebration and remembrance of the characters that appear in the saga. And that’s not the only thing, there is also a restaurant that offers the “Bella Burger.”

5. The author is just as much of a Twilight fan as we are.

Stephenie Meyer, the author of the books on which the Twilight saga was inspired by, appears in the first installment. Did you spot her? We’ll give you a hint. In the scene where Charlie asks Bella if she likes the boys from the city, she can be seen next to a laptop ordering a vegetarian sandwich.

6. A ring in the shape of the moon

The ring that Bella wears in the 2009 movie is made of a large moonstone. And when you think about it, it makes sense if we take into account that the film is called The Twilight Saga: New Moon...

7. The picture, a perfect memory of love

In the second installment of the saga from 2009, there is a scene where Charlie gives Bella her birthday presents. Behind him, you can see a picture hanging on the wall where the main characters of the first part of the saga appear, with the same look as in 2008. Had you noticed it?

8. Bella, a character who says it all with her eyes

Kristen Stewart’s eyes are green. That’s why for the first 2 installments of the saga, the actress had to wear brown contact lenses to match Bella’s eye color as it’s described in the book. And, in the last movie, Stewart had to wear red lenses to get vampire eyes. According to Robert Pattinson, the actress didn’t complain about the brown lenses, but she felt a little uncomfortable wearing the red ones.

9. Every girl’s dream wedding dress

Stephenie Meyer carefully handpicked Carolina Herrera to design Bella’s wedding dress in the film The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1 (2011). The famous designer was delighted when she learned that Kristen Stewart loved the dress she designed. Carolina Herrera’s top priority was to make the bride happy for her wedding!

10. Kristen loves wearing all kinds of accessories

In The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1, there is a scene in which Bella is together with Alice, trying on shoes for the wedding. Did you know that the rings the protagonist wears on her index and middle fingers both belong to Kristen Stewart, and that she wears them in real life?

11. And again, Stephenie Meyer couldn’t stop herself from appearing in the movie.

It seems that Stephenie Meyer liked the cameo she did for the first installment of the movie, and we can’t blame her. After all, it must be fun to be part of the films inspired by the novels you wrote. So not only did she appear in the 2008 film, as we previously said, but she came back to the big screen in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 1. In Edward and Bella’s wedding scene we can see her smiling among the guests.

12. A message of love in a locket

In The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 (2012), we can see Bella giving a small locket to her daughter Renesmee as a gift. In it, the phrase “Plus que ma propre vie” appears, which in French means “More than my own life,” to say that she loves her more than her own life.

13. Baseball, the Cullen’s favorite sport, which passes from generation to generation and from film to film

As the scenes that show little Renesmee’s rapid growth unfold, you can see a baseball glove with a ball on a shelf behind her. This is a reference to the first film of the franchise in which the Cullen family appears playing the same sport. It seems that the Cullen genes are strong in Renesmee.
