Instead they gave him up for adoption to a family who were more equipped to take care of a child with down syndrome and for that I commend your parents.

My aunt found out she was expecting at 37. She already had 5 and 7 year old kids and an alcoholic husband. Then she found out that the baby would be born with down syndrome. She researched what support there would be available for them and basically, there was nothing for children. Adults with conditions such as Down Syndrome could go to an adult day centre m-f but for babies and children there wasn't. She had an abortion. 2 years later she passed away from pneumonia. Her eldest stayed home with her dad and the youngest moved in with his aunt. She made the best decision for her family because there was no one capable of taking care of a disabled baby.
