My boys also slept in bunkbeds when they were younger (older on top/younger on the bottom) However, it was the OLDER brother that came to me asking to change away from bunkbeds in their room as he was worried that the bunks would collapse and that his younger brother might be injured

Aww! That's sweet. When I was 3 years old, my older brother and his rowdy school friend pushed me off the top bunk because "girls have cooties". I broke my arm, and he lied and said I fell on my own.

He's a decent person who took the responsibility for his mistake and made you "whole" again by getting your car fixed. Of course, he kept it secret because I gather that he didn't have your explicit permission to drive it in the first place! LOL
