Although she’s not active on social media, Angelina made an exception to express her heartfelt emotions on what would’ve been her mom’s 73rd birthday. The star wrote a poignant message about her beloved mom who died in 2007, and her words can resonate with us all.

The spitting image of her mom

The actress shared a vintage photo featuring her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand. In the photo, taken in the early 1980s, Jolie had blonde hair and was wearing a white summer dress and a beige straw hat while adorably posing next to her stunning mom.

She carries her mom in her heart.

Jolie accompanied the throwback snap with a sincere message where she noted, ’’Tomorrow would have been my mother’s 73rd birthday.’’ She shared that her mom died 15 years ago ’’after a long struggle with breast and ovarian cancer,’’ and noted that in June she will ’’be a month away from the age when she was diagnosed.’’

The Oscar winner then recalled how, back in 2013, she had a double mastectomy, saying, ’’I have had preventive surgeries to try to lessen chances but I continue to have checkups.’’

The 47-year-old star continued her homage to her mother as she recalled, ’’My mom loved Hendrix. And would always sign her letters Kiss the Sky.’’ She added, ’’it took on new meaning after she passed.’’

Jolie also made sure to send her love ’’to those who have also lost loved ones and strength to those who are fighting at this very moment for their lives and the lives of those they love.’’

A message to all women

The humanitarian also used her post and her visibility to raise awareness among other women, noting ’’please take the time to look after yourself and go for your mammograms and blood tests or ultrasounds, particularly if you have a family history of cancer.’’

Fellow actress Shannen Doherty, who is battling cancer herself, was one of the thousands of people who liked Jolie’s post, and we admire Doherty’s big heart and the journey she’s on despite the struggles she’s going through.

Angelina Jolie’s diverse family has always been in the spotlight, with her relationships with each child being unique and deeply rooted in their individual backgrounds. With her daughters, Shiloh and Zahara, Angelina has cultivated distinct bonds. Zahara, adopted by Jolie in 2005, faced significant health challenges early on, including severe malnourishment and a bacterial infection. On the other hand, Shiloh, Jolie’s biological daughter born in 2006, has been described as the “outcast” due to her striking resemblance to her parents. Despite this, Jolie emphasizes that family is built on love, not blood, and her bond with Zahara is particularly profound due to their shared experiences.

Beyond her acting career, Angelina Jolie’s parenting style stands out. She has adopted an educational approach that goes beyond traditional classrooms, favoring real-world experiences. While she allows her children the freedom to eat junk food and doesn’t push them towards acting, she does enforce certain restrictions, especially regarding online exposure. Jolie emphasizes the importance of celebrating diversity, and in her household, words like “adoption” and “orphanage” carry positive connotations. Despite the challenges of divorce, she prioritizes her children’s well-being and ensures they are shielded from media speculations.

The bond between Angelina and her eldest son, Maddox, is truly remarkable. Adopted from a Cambodian orphanage in 2002, Maddox’s entry into Jolie’s life was transformative. From the moment she held him, she felt an undeniable connection. Maddox’s presence prompted significant changes in Jolie’s life, steering her away from self-destructive tendencies. Over the years, she has ensured that Maddox remains connected to his Cambodian roots, even establishing a foundation in his name. Now 21, Maddox has grown into a multifaceted individual, pursuing studies in biotechnology and even dabbling in the entertainment industry alongside his mother.
