How Macaulay Culkin’s “Home Alone” Fame Made His Brother Feel Sorry for Him
When 10-year-old Macaulay Culkin was catapulted to fame thanks to Home Alone, his brother Kieran was 8. Despite his young age, Kieran had a vivid impression of what stardom felt like for his older brother. From the outside looking in, we were in awe of Macaulay’s talent and quick success, but his family didn’t see it the same way.
Fame is not always that pleasant.
While his brother Macaulay played the main role of Kevin McCallister in the 1990 cult movie, Kieran portrayed his prankster cousin Fuller McCallister.
In a recent interview, the Succession actor recalled the time when his brother turned into one of the most famous child stars in Hollywood’s history. Kieran described the sudden mega fame as an uncomfortable situation, not only for Macaulay but also for their family.
Kieran, who is now 40, explained, “Even at that time, as a kid, I remember thinking, ’That sucks for him.’’’ He went on to say about his older brother, “poor guy,” adding, “He was little and having to try to accept that level of fame as reality.”
The actor noted that things remained relatively normal for the young star at home and at school. However, the outside world kept on reminding them how famous Macaulay had gotten. Kieran even recalled a cabdriver once following them home, which highlights the intrusiveness and challenges that came with Macaulay’s immense fame.
However, despite these challenges and complications, both brothers have chosen to stay in the industry as they grew older.
However, his brother’s experience still had a strong impact on him, and as his own career was taking off, Kiernan ’’flipped out’’ and found it hard to deal with the idea of being recognized. The 40-year-old actor noted, ’’I had this unhealthy relationship with what I did for a living.’’ He added, ’’I really wanted to do it, but I didn’t want to be successful at it.’’
Kieran also is respected name in Hollywood.
Kieran’s big acting break came in 2002 with the critically acclaimed film Igby Goes Down. Today, he is also well-known thanks to his portrayal of Roman Roy in the popular TV series Succession.
The actor also became a dad to a baby daughter in 2019, followed by a son in 2021. He met his wife, Jazz Charton, back in 2012, and the couple has been married for 10 years now.
His brother Macaulay also has 2 kids. He welcomed his second baby boy with fiancée, actress Brenda Song, in December 2022.
