I Fell in Love With My Delivery Driver — In 6 Months, We Created a Family

A 30-year-old woman decided to make the first move with a mail courier she had only talked to on the phone with once. To everyone’s surprise, it ended up being the start of a relationship that might inspire even the most shy to “shoot their shot.”

He was asked out on a date without her even seeing his face.

A simple phone call led Tanatsa, a Zimbabwe native living in Australia, to see dating potential in 28-year-old Corey. On June 2020, Corey, who worked as a delivery driver then, quickly rang Tanatsa about a package. Although she was distracted getting her nails done, she immediately noticed the respectful way in which he spoke. She then asked him if he could drop the parcel outside her apartment, and he did so just one hour later, confirming the delivery via text. Amazingly enough, these simple interactions inspired Tanatsa to invite him out.

“I could tell even being on the phone with him for less than a minute that there was just something different about him,” Tanatsa recalled in an interview. “Something inside me was telling me to shoot my shot and ask him out.”

And she did, just one hour after he had delivered her package. She sent him a text that read: “You single by any chance? Haha.”

Things evolved quickly after their first date.

Corey replied to Tanatsa’s flirty text message and let her know that he was indeed single. Together, they decided to meet up at a local bar for a drink. Everything went smoothly, and they ended the night at Tanatsa’s apartment, where they talked the night away. Although nothing too eventful happened then, they were surprised 3 months later with news that stunned them both: Tanatsa found out she was pregnant.

At first, she was concerned that Corey wouldn’t take the pregnancy well, however his response was nothing but wholesome. Just another 3 months after finding out they were having a child together, Corey got down on one knee and asked the 30-year-old if she wanted to marry him. In spite of the fact that they had only met 6 months earlier, Tanatsa said yes and they became engaged.

Their families always supported their relationship.

Tanatsa revealed she met Corey’s dad over a home meal just a week after the two had had their first date and that his whole family immediately embraced her. So, it’s no surprise that their families were happy to hear about the engagement. Even Tanatsa’s mom and sister who live in the UK and heard the news of the engagement over a phone call.

With all the support they received from their close ones, the couple got married on December 19, 2020 and became Tanatsa and Corey Lucas.

Their own family keeps growing.

One year after the phone call that changed their lives, Tanatsa and Corey welcomed their first child, a baby boy named Archie. Then, in August 2023, Tanatsa gave birth to their second son, Theodore. The couple faced a few challenges after Archie was born, with Tanatsa battling post-natal depression. However, nothing phased the pair, who admitted their love grew to new heights once Theodore came into the family.

Corey has since changed jobs and became a driver for a suicide prevention charity in Melbourne, Australia, while Tanatsa remains a manager in Australia’s National Disability Insurance Scheme.

Although it was Tanatsa who showed interest first and kickstarted their relationship, she points to her husband as the one who made all her dreams come true. “I still can’t believe it happened,” she said. “He saved my life all over again.”

People meet their soulmates at the most unconventional places. For Monica Foster, it was the classroom. She first met her now-wife, Michelle, when she was 13 and the latter was her high school teacher. Years later, they reconnected, but the fact Monica married her favorite teacher bothers many online, who criticize the couple.
