“I Know Five Is a Lot,” Nicolas Cage’s Journey Through 4 Divorces to Finally Finding His True Love
Nicolas Cage, like many of us, has had his own share of successes and challenges in his romantic relationships. Despite all the difficulties, he refused to give up on the idea of finding a fulfilling and long-lasting connection. He has now entered into his fifth marriage, and holds hope that this partnership will be the right one.
Nicolas Cage showed that he was capable of holding romantic beliefs and aspirations during his first marriage.
In 1987, Nicolas Cage had a chance encounter with Patricia Arquette at a restaurant. During this meeting, he proposed to her, though she initially declined. Undeterred, Cage proposed that they embark on a “quest” together, with the goal being to complete a series of tasks set by Arquette.
These tasks included obtaining J.D. Salinger’s autograph, stealing a Bob’s Big Boy statue, and obtaining a black orchid, among other challenges.
Despite initially considering the tasks impossible, Arquette began receiving each item from her list, one by one. Despite Cage’s success in completing all of the tasks, she still refused to marry him. However, she did agree to go on a first date with him.
They dated for a period of time, but ultimately ended their relationship due to the speed at which it had progressed. Several years later, in 1995, Arquette reached out to Cage and expressed her readiness to get married. Unfortunately, their union was short-lived and they finalized their divorce in 2001.
Cage’s second marriage was brief, lasting only 107 days.
In 2000, Nicolas Cage had the opportunity to meet Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of Elvis Presley, at a social gathering. He immediately felt a strong connection to her and was captivated by her beautiful, soulful eyes, as he said himself.
Despite their relationship having its ups and downs, marked by a pattern of breaking up and rekindling their romance, they ultimately decided to get married in August 2002. However, after only a few months, they filed for divorce and it was finalized in May 2004.
The third time Nicolas Cage went through a divorce was unexpected for him.
Two months after meeting Alice Kim, Nicolas Cage, who was 40 years old at the time, decided to marry her, who was only 19 years old. The main reason was that she could accompany him to the filming location of Lord of War, but also because they had developed a deep love for each other.
Initially, Kim’s mother did not approve of the age gap between them, but over time Cage was able to win her over. A year after their marriage, Kim gave birth to their son Kal-El.
Cage and Kim’s marriage of 12 years came to an unexpected end, leaving Cage as a single man at the age of 54. Despite this, the two remained on friendly terms and Kim even attended Cage’s fifth wedding.
Cage’s fourth partnership was the shortest of all his marriages.
Cage and Erika Koike, a makeup artist, had been in a relationship for a year before they decided to get married in Las Vegas in 2019. However, soon after the ceremony, Cage came to the realization that he had made a mistake, and he filed for an annulment only four days after the wedding.
Despite his previous marriages not working out, Cage remained optimistic and decided to give marriage a fifth try.
Cage met his current wife, Riko Shibata, through mutual friends while he was in Japan filming Prisoner of the Ghostland. Despite his previous marriages ending in divorce, Cage was still open to the idea of marriage and proposed to Shibata via FaceTime while she was in Japan. Shibata accepted and they had an intimate ceremony in February 2021.
In an interview, Cage expressed his happiness in his current marriage and stated that his wife is one of his favorite things in the world. He acknowledged that five marriages is a lot, but he believes he has made the right decision this time.
What do you think about why Nicolas Cage’s former marriages ended in divorce? Are you the type of person who also rushes into marriages, or do you prefer to take it slow?
