“I Was Leaking Blue Ink:” Woman Reveals Rare Pregnancy Symptom

A 24-year-old expectant mother was shocked when she realized she was oozing a blue substance that was staining everything she came in contact with. The woman, who thought she was “turning into an Avatar,” searched for answers and shared the journey in a viral video.

Keisha Sethi turned to social media to raise awareness of a rare pregnancy symptom that affected her for a week. “I’m literally turning surfaces blue,” she began to say in a clip posted to Instagram and TikTok. “Yesterday, I went to the toilet, and when I got up from the toilet seat, it was blue. I was not even wearing any blue,” she mentioned, showing photos of different blue-stained surfaces, including a white tank top and pink sheets.

In an interview, the fitness coach explained that it all happened overnight and couldn’t be caused by denim as she had stopped wearing jeans 3 months before the incident. “I felt like an octopus,” she admitted." [...] I tried to wipe it, but it just would not come off."

When Sethi contacted her medical provider to discover what could be causing it, they thought she was joking. “I called the triage up, and they said they’d never heard of it. It’s so rare. The person I spoke to was laughing because she thought I was joking around,” she recalled.

The mom-to-be, who was 7 months pregnant then, and her partner took matters into their own hands and thoroughly researched the phenomenon. They concluded it was a rare pregnancy symptom. “It turns out it was just my skin and the sweat changing color due to hormones,” she revealed.

Although Sethi didn’t disclose a medical diagnosis, her symptom matches Apocrine chromhidrosis, a rare condition that causes colored sweat to be secreted by sweat glands.

In her viral post, the 24-year-old questioned whether someone else had gone through the same thing, and people rushed to the comments to make sure Sethi wasn’t alone in her struggle. “When I was on maternity, I met someone else who had the same thing! Apparently, it’s a hormone thing!” one user shared; “This happened to my white clothes and I was convinced it was dye from my jeans, but it never made sense,” another wrote.
