’’I’m Not a ‘Dusty, Old, Dry Thing’’ Drew Barrymore Gets Honest About Finding Love During Perimenopause
The 48-year-old actress is on a mission to ’’rebrand’’ menopause in order to end the stigma around it. Drew opened up about this natural stage in any women’s journey and the way it impacts our romantic life. We really admire Drew’s total honesty, and we think that her modern take on this subject could be life-changing.
Women continue to be appealing after menopause.
During a recent TV appearance, the actress brought up the importance of normalizing menopause.
She pointed out that “more women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s are looking so attractive, feeling so vibrant, and living their best lives.” She added, ’’The way menopause has been branded is, ’You’re old, you’re done.’ That’s not it.’’
The stigma around the topic needs to go.
And lately, Barrymore participated in a panel alongside Oprah Winfrey, Maria Shriver, and 3 female doctors.
The star confessed that although she is usually a very confident and honest person, she tried to avoid telling a recent date that the topic of the panel focused on menopause. She noted, “There’s something in that stigma that I don’t want you to think I’m some dusty, old, dry thing. That’s not the image I want.”
The actress and TV host then shared that she wonders if there is a way for us as a society to “rebrand” menopause in order to stop making it a taboo subject.
Drew declared, “If Mark Zuckerberg could rebrand Facebook to Meta, maybe we can do this for menopause.”
She had a big, personal moment on TV.
Recently, Barrymore had her first perimenopause experience during her own TV show, as she was hosting Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler. The 48-year-old suddenly removed her blazer and started fanning herself as she admitted, “I am so hot, I think I’m having my first perimenopause hot flashes.” As a reaction to the situation, Aniston exclaimed, “Oh, I feel so honored.”
Later on, Barrymore commented on this TV moment, saying that she was so glad it got documented.
