James Van Der Beek Gets Emotional as He Opens Up About the Heartbreaking Loss of His Wife’s Pregnancy

Recently James Van Der Beek reflected on an extremely emotional moment in his life sharing the details of an overwhelming experience he went through along with his wife, Kimberly. The actor considers the topic important to be talked about openly in hopes of helping others who may be going through similar experiences. We can’t but truly admire his brave decision of going public with his heartbreaking story.

On a new episode of Bathroom Chronicles, a podcast by world-renowned psychic medium and intuitive healer, Peggy Rometo and James van Der Beek’s wife, Kimberly, the actor shared new details about his wife’s pregnancy loss in 2019. The incident occurred while he was competing on season 28 of Dancing with the Stars (DWTS), just 2 nights before the semi-finals. Kimberly had a miscarriage at 17½ weeks.

The Dawson’s Creek star revealed that he and his family were watching TV together when Kimberly suddenly felt unwell. She went to the shower and moments later had a miscarriage, which was an unexpected experience. “It was just so much pain,” the actor recalled. Both husband and wife were left crying and sobbing.

Kimberly lied down in the shower and did not wake up, so James called 911 for help. The entire experience was traumatic for James as everything was going perfectly and felt like a fairy tale until that moment.

After some time, Peggy Rometo arrived at the residence to provide assistance, and the emergency crew arrived shortly after. Due to Kimberly’s repeated loss of consciousness, the team made the decision to transport her to the hospital. As James believed that it was necessary for at least one parent to remain at home, he stayed behind while Rometo accompanied Kimberly.

At that point in time, Kimberly and James had 5 children: Gwendolyn, who was 4 years old, Emilia, 6, Annabel, 9, Olivia, 12, and their son Joshua, who was 10. They have since had another son, Jeremiah, who is now 15 months old.

James recollects the moment when the ambulance took Kimberly away, leaving him alone with their daughter Gwen. He had managed to get her back to bed and was left sitting in the bathroom alone. “It was just a gut punch, an emotional gut punch,” Van Der Beek revealed.

During the next week, James announced on DWTS that Kimberly had lost their then-sixth baby. He stated then, “My wife Kimberly and I went through every expecting parent’s worst nightmare. We lost the baby.” He went on sharing, “The little soul that we had expected to welcome into our family took a shortcut to whatever lies beyond.”

The 46-year-old performer also mentioned that he has been teaching his children that we never truly understand the reasons why certain events occur. However, we do know that it can bring people closer, and it can make us more compassionate and understanding individuals.

Despite not feeling like he was ready to dance that night, he decided to go ahead with the competition as Kimberly encouraged him to do so. Furthermore, the actor shared some advice to those going through challenging periods in their lives, saying, “Really give yourself time to heal. Go into it.”
