The Moving Lesson the Late Chadwick Boseman Left for Fellow Actor Michael B. Jordan
Michael B. Jordan, who co-starred alongside Chadwick Boseman in Marvel’s highly successful movie, Black Panther (2018), recently spoke about the valuable lessons he learned from the late actor and how he still serves as an inspiration to him. Despite their close friendship being cut short by Boseman’s death in 2020, Jordan remains grateful for the time they spent together on and off set.
A lesson for life
During a recent interview, Michael B. Jordan opened up about the close bond he shared with the late actor, Chadwick Boseman, and how his friend’s sudden passing affected him deeply. Jordan recounted a moment during the press tour for their film, Black Panther, when the 2 were backstage in London getting ready to watch the movie together for the first time. “We looked at each other, like, ’We’re connected for the rest of our lives.’ I just remember sitting there and having a real connection, a real moment with him,” Jordan shared.
Back then, the 36-year-old actor didn’t know Boseman was battling colon cancer, as he kept it a secret and “worked up until the very last moment of his life,” Jordan added.
Boseman’s attitude had an intense impact on Jordan, who now looks at life differently. “That’s what he left for us: Every moment that you get, make the most of it,” Jordan said. “Life is short — you have a limited amount of time with the people you love and the things you love to do. So make it worth it and make it count. That’s what I carry with me as I move forward.”
The loss of his friend hurt Jordan deeply.
In 2021, Jordan was interviewed for an issue of Vanity Fair, and when asked about what made him cry the hardest that year, Boseman’s passing was the immediate answer. “Our relationship was a very personal one and had a lot of great moments — some that I couldn’t fully appreciate and fully understand until now. I wish I had more time to have our relationship evolve and grow and become closer and stronger,” he revealed. “And losing him was...Yeah, man, it hurt. It hurt a lot.”
However, the actor looks back on his friend’s life proudly and fondly. “We got a concentrated dose of Chadwick. He did more in his 43 years of life than most people have done in a lifetime,” Jordan reflected. “He had his impact and his legacy. That was clear with the abundance of love that he has gotten from people all over the world. There are generations of kids coming up that look to him. It’s incredible.”
