Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher have known each other since 1998, and it wasn’t until 2012 that they began dating. Married in 2015, the duo now share 2 kids, a daughter Wyatt, and a son, Dmitri. While the lovebirds usually keep a low profile when it comes to their private life, they recently made a decision that sparked controversy.
A few years ago, when Ashton was invited to Dax Sheppard’s podcast, Armchair Expert, he revealed that he and Mila have no intentions of leaving their hard-earned money to their 2 children. Instead, they want to give it to people who truly need it. Kutcher added, “I’m not setting up a trust for them. We’ll end up giving our money away to charity and to various things.”
Mila and Ashton have a combined net worth of around $250 million.
The reason behind the controversial decision is that Kunis and Ashton’s children “are living a really privileged life, and they don’t even know it. And they’ll never know it, because this is the only one they know.”
The Two and a Half Men actor stated that if his daughter and son need financial support further down the line, they will have to earn it. “If my kids want to start a business, and they have a good business plan, I’ll invest in it. But they’re not getting trust funds.”
The Hollywood duo doesn’t want to raise spoiled children. While both Kunis and Ashton came from “pretty solid poverty backgrounds and grew up very poor, they are very much self-made and are very aware of what a dollar is worth,” Kunis added, “Nothing’s been handed to us.”
Mila Kunis believes her kids need to know “from a very early age that, you know, ’Mommy and Daddy may have a dollar, but you’re poor,’” she jokes. One trait the mother of 2 wants her kids to inherit is learning the value of hard work.
Inheriting their parents’ wealth may prevent children from developing a strong sense of responsibility. Despite this, 59% of moms and dads believe there’s no such thing as leaving their offspring too much money.
Kunis and Kutcher want their kids to become resourceful, and to teach them this, Kutcher hopes to take them on camping trips often. He shared, “As long as they know what to do when they don’t have things...hopefully they’ll be motivated to have what they had, or some version of what they had.”
While they may have good intentions, I think most people try to leave an inheritance to their children. They have worked hard to get where their at in life and it would obviously be a very admirable and a good thing to give to charities. That being said I think they should leave some to their children as well.
