Bon Jovi and Dorothea’s Story Proves That Love Isn’t About Fame or Fortune

Everyone knows what it feels like to fall in love, and when you do, you want that feeling to last forever and for that person to love you back. Then, when the “illusion” is over, things can get pretty messy, but at least you’ve learned something new thanks to the school of love: that some relationships are just not meant to be.

John Francis Bongiovi Jr., that’s the real name of the rock star known as Jon Bon Jovi. He made a whole generation rock with his songs. But few people know that in high school, Cupid made him fall at the mercy of Dorothea Hurley, who he still shares his days with today, more than 40 years later.

In the world of rock and roll, debauchery and scandals are the daily bread, but Bon Jovi has never really been part of that. And despite the fact that, in his youth, he spent a lot of time away from home, he always knew what and who was the most important thing in his life.

“Happy birthday to the only one since day one,” wrote the rock star on his Instagram account, in which he posted a black and white photo, where the love between him and the karate instructor was clear.

In 1980, they began to write the first lyrics of this love story — they lasted 3 years together and then broke up. In 1984, after a world tour with the band, he sought her out and asked her to get back together. She said yes.

There are inevitable things in life, and for Jon Bon Jovi, one of them was love, so in 1989, he again made a proposal to Dorothea: he asked her to be his wife. After traveling more than 4,000 kilometers, they got married secretly in the city of Las Vegas on April 29th.

After 33 years, the couple is still together. However, Jon has admitted that he is no saint. He even went so far as to say that he had bordered on the dark side of rock and missed great moments with his family. But in his story, he never faced a mistress or other offspring. He also said that Dorothea was always there to hold everything together.

They never had a conflict strong enough to tear them apart — they understood that the key to any relationship is “mutual respect” and that life is a road with ups and downs to go through. As Dorothea said in an interview, “The obstacles on the road are the road itself.”

None of them has let fame change them, and Bon Jovi takes his job as a musician as something he enjoys and gets paid well for. “It’s just what I do, not who I am. I write songs. I happen to be very good at performing them. That’s it.”

There is no doubt that this couple works as a team, that they support each other, and that each in their own way decided that they would grow together in every sense that this word can entail. “If one falls, the other is there to help them,” said the singer-songwriter.

On February 14, 2022, Bon Jovi made the most romantic person of our generation look like a noobie by posting a photo with his beloved Dorothea. The message could not have been clearer: “My forever Valentine.”

And the fact is that they probably never imagined that after she let him cheat on a history exam, they would be the protagonists of their own love story, which led to 4 children.

Jon Bon Jovi and his wife have shown through their love that a true partnership and constant support are essential to both a happy marriage and extraordinary personal accomplishments.
