10 Countries That Have Very Different Concepts of Male Beauty

These days, men go to great lengths in order to attract female attention and attain the status of the most desirable and charming individual. To reach these goals, they resort to the most unexpected means, and even make considerable sacrifices. The high expectations of the fairer sex must be met, no matter what. But, oddly enough — those expectations themselves vary from country to country!

Today, Bright Side invites you to visit 10 places around the world that have very different ideals of male beauty. What attracts women in one society, may very well repulse them in another!

USA

These days, charming and sporty types are losing their appeal with American women. They’re being replaced by broad-shouldered men with a burly physique. There’s even a special term to describe these lady-magnets: ’lumbersexuals.’ We’re talking about a strong, fair-skinned guy with attractively-bulging muscles, and — this is very important — a beard. The dress code should steer clear of elegant suits, in favor of jeans, rough boots, and flannel shirts. If all these criteria are met — the US girls will stand no chance!

Brazil

The internationally-recognized image of a handsome Brazilian man involves dark hair, brown eyes, and a beautiful suntan. However, women who actually reside in this tropical country seem to go for guys with light eyes and fair curls. Those who possess these features are guaranteed their fair share of female attention. At the same time, the appeal of the famous Brazilian suntan is not to be underestimated. Not to mention ’six-pack’ abs — impressive muscles are always a plus!

India

To find guys, who completely match the Indian ideals of handsomeness — look no further than Bollywood movies! In this country, if a young man wants to be popular with the opposite sex, he needs to be fit and moderately muscular. Also, to get as close as possible to the image of a true Indian macho, you need to apply styling gel every day, get waxed regularly, grow a small stubble, and — most importantly — use skin-lightening creams.

Sweden

The Swedish concept of masculine beauty has lately undergone certain transformations. Today, it’s not just the brutal Viking types who are popular with the ladies, but also young men with, sometimes, extremely slender physiques, and a hint of sadness in their eyes. As for the perennial signs of a true Swedish hunk — they include tallness, pale skin, light eyes, blonde hair, and cheekbones so sharp, you could cut yourself on them.

Turkey

To a Turkish woman, an ideal Turkish man must possess courage and strength, together with a lyrical disposition. This is probably why the actors, who play romantic heroes in the local melodramas and soap operas, enjoy unprecedented female attention. In Turkey, to be considered handsome, a guy has to be extremely well-groomed and pay close attention to hair styling. At the same time, to really please the ladies, the hair on their chest needs to be mercilessly removed. Last but not least — Turkish women are known to admire men whose looks combine traditional ethnic features and light-colored eyes.

Italy

In Italy, the title of a handsome and universally charming man can be awarded to anyone who takes good care of his appearance. It’s a society, where natural beauty is much less important than the ability to look cool. An Italian guy is always fresh and stylishly-dressed. He isn’t afraid of bright-colored clothes and jewelry. Also, he is prepared to use female beauty tricks, like plucking eyebrows, manicures, and even cosmetic procedures and injections. Italian machos often have a light stubble, or short beards, but — their facial hair always looks very neat and tidy.

South Korea

If you’ve ever watched a South Korean TV series, or witnessed K-pop idol performances, then — you must already know that the concept of male beauty in this Asian state differs radically from most other countries. Over here, there’s no rough, brutal male beauty. You won’t see any guys sporting huge muscles, thick beards, or even a light stubble. Instead, the super-trendy masculine features include smooth skin; fashionably cut (and, often, brightly-dyed) hair; slender, sometimes even fragile, physiques. To please the ladies, local men even resort to plastic surgery. Also, South Korean heartthrobs are intimately familiar with lip gloss and eye shadows. And, finally, in this country, men are very particular about their wardrobe, paying serious money for items from famous brands.

United Kingdom

The shores of Great Britain are not exactly spoiled by sunny weather. That’s why UK residents have naturally fair skin. But, unlike in India, English men don’t find this feature to be helpful in attracting the opposite sex. Actually, they often try to remedy this ’drawback’ by using self-tanning products. To please the ladies, UK machos either opt for a clean-shaven look, or, as is increasingly popular these days, grow a short stubble. They try not to gain extra pounds, yet steer clear of excessive muscle-building workouts. Also, it’s not uncommon for modern British guys to have tattoos — these body decorations never fail to impress the local girls.

Greece

You probably think that, in Greece, men don’t need to apply any effort at all to keep the girls mesmerized. After all, most of the guys over there really are as handsome as ancient statues, or the gods that they depict. Dark (or mildly silver-streaked) hair, deep gaze, manly facial features, slim and tanned body, and, lest we forget, the famous Greek profile — what a winning combination! It’s as if the deities of Mount Olympus really were involved in shaping the standards of male beauty in this part of the world. But, if so, they forgot one important detail: the height. Any Greek man taller than 5’5″ can safely be considered a giant. No wonder the local ladies would single out a guy like that from of a crowd of shorter peers.

Australia

Despite the fact that Korean and Australian men look very different — they both take great care of their appearance. Come to think of it, the latter can actually teach the former a thing or two. The male inhabitants of the Green Continent are always ready to invest time and money in attaining a trendy image. But, after all — their girlfriends and wives expect nothing less. Australian guys visit cosmetologists, hang out in gyms trying to achieve the perfect muscles, and even undergo plastic surgeries to change the shape of their nose and ears. The results are worth the trouble: men from Down Under are considered to be among the sexiest in the world.
