8 Famous Moms Who Chose to Eat Their Placenta After Birth

Some people claim that human placentophagy has many benefits for the mother, however, studies have found that there is no scientific evidence that proves this opinion to be accurate. Yet, some celeb moms have decided to go the placenta-eating route and they shared their experiences with the world. Some have taken it in the form of pills, or in a smoothie and even described the taste to be yummy.

Mayim Bialik

The 46-year-old actress and author wrote an entire blog post in order to defend placenta eaters. She shared, “I ingested my placenta,” and added, "I am not a bad person, a crazy person.’’
Bialik also noted, ’’Human beings are the only mammals that have chosen to not routinely ingest their placenta.’’ She then went on saying, ’’It’s good for mammals to eat the placenta and we evolved for that purpose.’’
The mama of 2 also described her experience of ingesting her own placenta as “yum.”

Kourtney Kardashian

The 43-year-old media personality is a mom to 3 kids, yet it was only after giving birth for the third time that she decided to eat her placenta. And it seems that she enjoyed the experience. Kourtney shared on her social media a photo of her placenta pills and wrote, ’’I will be sad when my placenta pills run out. They are life-changing!’’

January Jones

The 44-year-old actress had her son in 2011 and had to rush back to the set of her hit TV series Mad Men. Jones thinks that eating her placenta helped her go back to work fast, and believes that this practice should become a natural thing for all moms. She said, ’’We’re the only mammals who don’t ingest our own placentas."

Alicia Silverstone

The 45-year-old actress has one son born in 2011. Silverstone revealed that her placenta was given to her in the form of pills as a gift. And it seems that she truly enjoyed the experience of taking them. In fact, she described them as “happy pills.” She even added, “I was really sad when they were gone. It really helped me.”

Katherine Heigl

The 43-year-old actress is a mom to 2 adopted kids and one biological child. After giving birth to her son, Heigl revealed that she gave her placenta to a company that freeze-dried it, and then turned it into pills.

Nikki Reed

The 34-year-old actress has a son with her husband, actor Ian Somerhalder. She once posted a photo of her holding a jar of her placenta pills and revealed that she was sad that they were almost over. Reed wrote, “Last day of placenta pills. Not ready to say goodbye!!!!!”

Chrissy Teigen

The 36-year-old TV personality experienced some postpartum blues after delivering her daughter. This is why she decided to try eating her placenta as a way to prevent the same situation after having her second child. Teigen even joked about it and said, “I’m in L.A., it’s very normal. They grill it here.” She added, “You can try some of mine after.”

Hilary Duff

The 34-year-old actress is the mama of 3 children. She revealed that she drank her placenta in a smoothie after giving birth to her second child. Duff described the experience as “the most delightful smoothie I’ve ever had.” She then added, “I haven’t had a smoothie that delightful since I was 10. It was calorie-filled with juice and fruit and everything delicious.”

Instead of taking it in the form of pills or drinking it in a smoothie, Matthew and Camilla have done things a little differently. In fact, the power couple chose to use the placenta as a fertilizer when planting a mango tree.
Matthew explained, “That mango tree bore its first mango 9 years later, which we all as a family sat down and ate together and celebrated our eldest son.’’ Going, “You helped fertilize this mango, sir.”
