10 Celebrities Who’d Rather Wear the Same Outfits Than Let Them Collect Dust on the Shelves
If the population of our planet reaches 9.6 billion by 2050, humanity will require the equivalent of 3 planets to sustain the current lifestyle. That’s why reasonable and responsible consumption is gradually becoming a must for each and every one of us. However, while ordinary people don’t find it inappropriate to wear the same outfit many times, celebrities might have some kind of unspoken rule that dictates not to show up in the same outfit twice, especially to important events. The good news is that many famous people have already started to ditch those rules and often appear in public wearing the same garments.
We at Bright Side do our best to care for our planet, and we’re glad to see celebrities who care about our shared home too. That’s why we’ve selected 10 famous people who weren’t shy about appearing in public wearing the same outfit twice, thrice, or even more times.
Jane Fonda
The American actress and former fashion model, Jane Fonda, is known for her environmental activism. She has been seen wearing the same outfits many times, and her appearance at the Oscar 2020 ceremony was no exception. The world saw her wearing the same dress in 2014 at the 67th Annual Cannes Film Festival.
She also attended the Saint Laurent show in an elegant black suit complemented with a black blazer in February 2016.
And re-appeared wearing the same look just one month later at the UCLA Institute of the Environment and Sustainability celebration of the Champions of Our Planet’s Future.
Elizabeth Banks
The American actress, director, writer, and producer known for her role as Effie Trinket in The Hunger Games film series attended the 2004 Vanity Fair Oscar Party wearing a stunning floor-length red dress (see the photo above). She wore the same outfit 16 years later at the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party (see the photo below).
Selena Gomez
Selena Gomez is also one of those celebrities who doesn’t mind appearing in the same clothes in public. For example, she was seen wearing a light blue dress in September and then again one month later. It seems she only changed her purse.
Arianna Huffington
The Greek-American author and businesswoman Arianna Huffington is among the world’s 100 most influential people, according to Time magazine. She’s also one of the most powerful women on the Forbes list. Still, despite all her wealth and power, Arianna doesn’t mind repeating her looks from time to time.
She has repeated the stylish black look, consisting of a long black skirt and an extravagant top, that she wore to the 2013 Vanity Fair Oscars Party (see the photo above). Huffington showed up to the 2020 Vanity Fair Oscar Party wearing the same outfit 7 years later (see the photo below).
Joaquin Phoenix
Male celebrities take an active part in supporting reasonable consumption as well. For example, at the beginning of last year, Joaquin Phoenix promised to wear the same Stella McCartney tuxedo during the entire award season in order to help the planet and reduce waste. Apparently, he has kept his promise and worn the same tux to the SAG Awards, BAFTA, Golden Globes, and Oscars ceremonies.
Kirsten Dunst
Another celebrity who wore the same outfit 13 years apart. She was first seen wearing this sweet white lace dress in 2004 at the Oscars’ Party (see the photo above). In 2020, Kirsten complemented this dress with a black blazer, which helped her look as stunning as always (see the photo below).
Mindy Kaling
The comedian and actress Mindy Kaling, known for her role as Kelly Kapoor in The Office, also contributes to saving the environment. She was seen wearing the same black dress only 2 months apart in 2013: at the Writers Guild Awards in February (see the photo above) and at Grades of Green’s Verte annual fundraising event in April (see the photo below).
Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett opted for an elegant floor-length black dress when she got her Oscar for the Best Actress in Blue Jasmine in 2014 (see the photo above). She re-appeared in the same stunning look at the gala dinner during the 71st annual Cannes Film Festival in 2018.
Rita Moreno
The Puerto Rican actress, dancer, and singer Rita Moreno has broken all records by wearing the same dress 56 years apart. She attended the Oscars’ ceremony in 1962 in a wonderful dress with an intricate skirt, and then wore the same gown to the 2018 Academy Awards ceremony.
Bonus: Kate Middleton
Royals also support the idea of reasonable consumption and can often be seen wearing the same clothes. One example is Kate Middleton’s official red suit, which she’s worn in 2011, 2014, and 2017.
