Gardening does something to people — it makes them patient, observant, generous with what they grow. It has a way of revealing who people really are. Some start with one windowsill flower and end up with a roof garden full of raspberries and fruit trees. Some water a plant in a shop they have no intention of buying, just because it looked thirsty.
These 17 plant photos and stories about gardening, landscaping, wildflowers and the small joys hiding in every garden and windowsill prove that the people who grow things always have something worth sharing.
Flower lovers who have a yard have plenty of room to plant all kinds of roses.
In winter, you can look back through the photo gallery on your phone and admire them.
The poster shows off their houseplant but jokes that it needs a new home — with higher ceilings.
- Once, I saw a Hens and Chicks (Sempervivum) for sale at a store. It looked like it hadn’t been watered in a long time.
It cost 6–8 euros. I couldn’t buy it, but I had a plastic saucer with me. I put it underneath the plant and gave it a little water. I hope someone ended up buying it.
Pots don’t always have to sit on the windowsill. Sometimes they’re hung from the ceiling.
Another user went a step further and created a mini-ocean of his own.
These plants are epiphytes. They live on other trees or plants, but they are not parasites. They absorb water and nutrients directly from the air through special scales on their leaves, using their roots only to anchor themselves to a support.
This beauty welcomes residents every day.
My grandma absolutely loves flowers: every spring, all the windowsills are covered with seedlings, and in summer, this kind of beauty appears.
A man says his wife is terrible at bragging, so he’ll do it for her. His lovely wife created a garden, and 80% of the plants were grown from seeds.
Online users also began asking which Zinnia varieties these are. They include Queen Lime Orange, Oklahoma Ivory, and “I don’t know, I forgot.”
It’s a whole botanical garden at home!
Guys, what should I do? What am I supposed to do with my Monstera? I bought it about 6 years ago, and now it has taken over my entire apartment. Strangely enough, I’m proud of it.
It no longer fits in my home, but I just can’t bring myself to get rid of it. Even if someone buys it, how would I even get it to the buyer?

Plants can be grateful, too.
- A story about ficus. They’re generally finicky plants.
Once, an acquaintance gave me some thin cuttings. First, this bunch of cuttings took root in water. Then, believe it or not, I planted them in ordinary soil from the garden. That’s it.
I watered them once a week and loosened the soil with a thin bamboo stick. They spent the winter on the windowsill. In spring, I repotted them in soil for ficus.
They’re already 3 years old. They’ve rewarded me with lovely leaves and wonderful growth. 11 beautiful weeping figs!
OP shares a fairly rare photo and shows how his epiphytic plant blooms.
It sits under a grow light alongside my other plants. I soak it in water for 30 minutes once a week. Once a month, I add fertilizer to the water.
When there’s enough room in the house, why not?
Users joke about how sweet it is of plants to let you live in their home. But in reality, this is the true master of the house.
This guy is just a dream!
- I met a guy. We were sitting in a café. We’d already talked about the weather and nature, so what else was there to talk about? And then I glance over at the windowsill and exclaim, “Now that’s a money tree!”
The guy smiled and told me he has an entire cactus collection at home, then started showing me photos of them blooming and his container gardening. I asked where his love of cacti came from.
Turns out he loves cooking, used to work as a chef, and would step outside onto the porch for a break. An elderly lady nearby was selling cacti. They got to talking, and he bought a cactus from her. Then another, and another.
Girls! A man who loves plants, can cook, and respects elders — that’s such a green flag!
A woman created a little piece of an exotic forest in her home.
A surprise among the roses
- In the spring, my neighbor gave me 3 cups with seedlings and proudly announced, “This is a special variety.” She has a gorgeous garden, so I watered the sprouts and planted them next to my roses.
Now all the neighbors peek over the fence and burst out laughing, because she accidentally mixed up the flower seedlings with ornamental cabbage. Still, I have the most unusual and funniest garden around.
The poster wrote that many butterflies had come to her garden this year.
- Love it! You probably have tons of bumble bees too. Congrats on a pretty and useful garden, especially to the wildlife. The seeds will get a lot of birds through the winter too. © WhiteOaklady / Reddit
