Same reason to steal dogs as is to abduct kids, rich people are willing to pay even millions though most often pedigree breeds are sold easily which these lame thieves' real purpose is as it has little risk. For example just google Lady Gaga's pet dog that was dognapped few days back and how much she was willing to pay, you'll get the idea.
