9 Movie and TV Series Sequels That Can Storm Our Screens and Steal Our Hearts

Some films and movies are captivating because of their unique characters or visuals. And oftentimes, the last part of a trilogy or the final episode of a series leaves us feeling sad. Fortunately, successful franchises don’t like going away forever and some of them return to the screen to make us happy again.

We at Bright Side decided to do some digging and find out what famous series and films are going to have sequels in the near future.

Pirates of the Caribbean

In the spring of 2020, it was revealed that Disney is planning to make another part of the successful franchise, Pirates of the Caribbean. But it won’t feature the main character, Jack Sparrow, portrayed by Johnny Depp. The thing is, in 2018, Disney stopped working with the actor because of his serious legal issues with his ex-wife, Amber Heard. The company said that they hoped to give the project a new life but without the main character.

The main role of the new lead pirate will be played by Margot Robbie and the script will be written by Christina Hodson who previously worked on Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn. But Jack Sparrow fans are unhappy about this change and want both Depp and Robbie to be in the film.

The Matrix

The fourth movie in The Matrix franchise will be released in the spring of 2022. The last film was released 17 years ago, in 2003.

The main plot will still be about the war between the main characters and the computer software. The creators of the film don’t want to reveal too much but we already know that Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss will be in the film. Also, we can expect to see Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Baywatch, Aquaman) and Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother and Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events) in the movie.

Friends

Actors Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc will all be on set together one last time to work on another episode of the iconic show. The special episode will be released by HBO Maх.

Each of the actors is expected to be paid just over $2 million for participating in the project.

Honey, I Shrunk the Kids

This will be a sequel to the successful comedy from the ’90s about a professor that invented the shrinking machine. It’s already confirmed that Rick Moranis, the main actor, will be in the sequel. It will be his first big role after a long break: he hasn’t appeared on screen since 1997.

Joe Johnston, the director of the original film, will be making the new installment. The main role will be played by Josh Gad who will portray the son of the professor that wants to become a genius scientist. But, just like his father, he’ll shrink the kids.

Avatar

Avatar was released in 2009 and was a huge hit around the world. At the moment, director James Cameron is working on 4 sequels at the same time. The second film is planned to appear in December 2022, and the next 3 movies will be released in 2024, 2026, and 2028.

In one of his recent interviews, Cameron said that Avatar 2 is going to be no less incredible than the first film. “I deal with images in that world every single day and there are some days when I look at those images and say, ‘This is really amazing,’” revealed the director.

Constantine

The sequel of another iconic movie starring Keanu Reeves may be released in the following years. In the sequel, John Constantine will be jumping back into the war between angels and demons to find a way to stop the demons from hell.

In 2019, Reeves said that he’d be more than happy to return to the role of Constantine.

Mad Max

The director of Mad Max: Fury Road, George Miller, confirmed that a spin-off about Furiosa is in development. According to Miller, Charlize Theron will not be coming back to reprise her role and the team is looking for an actress around the age of 20. In the beginning, the director was going to make Theron look younger with digital technology but then gave up on the idea.

Theron said it was hard for her to accept this decision: “Yeah, it’s a little heartbreaking, for sure. But he is a master and I wish him the best. I really love that character, and I’m so grateful that I had a small part in creating her. She will forever be someone I think of and reflect on fondly.”

George Miller hopes to start working on the new film in the Mad Max franchise. Anya Taylor-Joy (Split, Emma, The New Mutants) is being considered for the part and has already auditioned.

American Horror Story

The tenth season of American Horror Story will be released in 2021. Showrunner Ryan Murphy announced that one of the main characters will be portrayed by Macaulay Culkin, the star of Home Alone. It will be the first big role in his career in recent years.

Game of Thrones

HBO is going to shoot a prequel to Game of Thrones and it will be titled, House of the Dragon. At the moment, the cast of the show is still not decided but the plot will revolve around Targaryen’s history and set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones.

Shooting is expected to start in 2021. The plot will be based on the novel Fire & Blood which was released by George R. R. Martin in 2018.
