A Friend Donates Her Kidney to Selena Gomez and Proves True Friendship Is a Treasure Indeed
Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa have been friends for almost a decade. “We just clicked,” Francia said. She even donated her kidney to save Selena’s life.
It might sound like the perfect friendship, yet, not only have they been through ups but also some low downs. Fortunately, the end of this story is a happy one.
Selena got diagnosed with Lupus in 2015.
Lupus is a lifelong immune system illness that can cause inflammation in any body part and attack healthy tissues. Mostly women suffer from this condition. In 2015, Selena got diagnosed with it and had to cancel her tour to undergo chemotherapy. Her abrupt disappearance gave rise to many rumors and Selena was exhausted, “I locked myself away until I was confident and comfortable again.”
2 years later she needed a kidney transplant.
There’s no cure for Lupus, and sadly, Selena couldn’t prevent her irreversible kidney damage. So she was looking for a kidney donor and waiting for an organ transplant. Meanwhile, she was taking medicine that suppressed her immune system. That is also why she had to take a break from everything — to protect her health.
Her best friend donated her own kidney.
Her best friend Francia Raisa was there to help and donated her own kidney to Selena. Selena wrote a post on Instagram updating her fans on the situation. She wholeheartedly thanked her best friend, saying, “I’m incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”
Francia kept tight-lipped about her good deed at first, but then decided to share her story on Twitter on World Kidney Day.
Then they fell out.
The girls stopped talking in 2018 when Francia got hurt over Selena’s unhealthy choices after the transplant. In December 2019, the suspicions of their feud were heightened when Gomez didn’t even mention Francia’s name when talking about the surgery. She just called her “the girl that gave me the kidney.”
3 years later they reconciled.
3 years later, they made up. Francia opened up about the kidney donation process on Twitter. She said she finally felt comfortable and confident in speaking about her experience. Selena reposted Francia’s tweets saying, “Thank you for blessing me. I am forever grateful to you.”
Their friendship is thriving again.
Now the relationship between the 2 is way better. Selena and Francia spent one evening together playing a viral TikTok game, “He’s a 10, but...”. They were joking around and seemed to be having a great time together.
Selena also wished Francia happy birthday in an Instagram story. It’s great to know they’re still close friends after everything that’s happened.
Do you think it was a good decision to stop talking to Francia? What would you do if you were in Selena’s shoes?
