A Woman Demands Larger Plane Seats or Free Extra Seat for Plus-Size Passengers

Regardless of size, every single one of us has experienced being completely cramped on a plane. Now imagine being twice your own size and trying to get through a flight — it’s an absolute nightmare! That’s why this plus-size influencer sheds light on inhumane flying conditions that people like her have to deal with every day, and the solution is very simple in her mind.

Jae’lynn Chaney has started a petition on Change.org urging airlines to protect plus-size travelers, like herself, from being discriminated against when traveling by plane.

She wrote: “The FAA must require all airlines to implement a clear customer-of-size policy that prioritizes the comfort and well-being of all passengers. This policy should include clear guidelines on accommodating larger passengers, like providing larger seats, seat belt extenders, and alternative seating arrangements.”

Jae’lynn then continued to explain how humiliating it can be to be plus-size on a plane: “Being forced to occupy only one seat can result in pain and vulnerability to poor treatment from fellow passengers, including hateful comments, disapproving looks, and even refusal to sit next to them.”

Her biggest demand, taken from the worst problem for larger air travelers, is free seats for plus-size people: “All plus-size passengers should be provided with an extra free seat, or even 2 or 3 seats depending on their size, to accommodate their needs and ensure their comfort during the flight.”

Additional requirements outlined by Jae’lynn include: a refund of additional seat ticket costs, assistance during boarding with the provision of wheelchairs, larger bathrooms and seat belts, and special training for staff in order to provide proper care for plus-size people on board.

Chaney also started a Twitter thread defending her and other people’s right to being treated fair on a plane: “Plus-size travelers are not asking for special treatment, we are simply asking for equal treatment. We deserve to travel without fear of discrimination, humiliation, or being forced to pay for an extra seat.”

And while she’s still hoping to inspire change, Jae’lynn shares important flying tips for plus-size travelers on her Instagram. Many people support her initiative and finally feel seen thanks to her efforts.

Another incident arose when a woman purchased two seats for herself during a flight but sparked a conflict by refusing to give up the second seat for a child of another passenger.
