Well gee Dad, I'm sorry to hear that. Can I mention the third attempt on my life over being YOUR SON.
Arnold Schwarzenegger Gets Honest About the Medical Mistake That Almost Killed Him
Arnold Schwarzenegger recently spilled the beans on the tough times he faced after his third heart surgery. You know, the guy we all remember for his action-packed movies and bodybuilding feats, showing off his muscles and strength on the big screen? Well, turns out he’s also a warrior in life, and he had quite the rollercoaster ride post-surgery.
Arnold’s journey began when he went in for his third open-heart surgery to replace his aortic valve. He’d been through this before, having surgeries in 1997 and 2018 to fix heart valve issues. This time, though, things got seriously complicated.
Now, Arnold is getting real about going under the knife. The 76-year-old action legend recently dropped a video on YouTube, where he shared some snapshots of his journey to recovery after the surgery. This brave move comes only a few months before he went back to his iconic role in Terminator 6, which hit the big screens in 2019.
In the video, Arnold opens up about the bumpy road to recovery he faced due to some complications that arose post-surgery. It’s a candid glimpse into the life of a Hollywood icon who, for decades, has embodied strength and resilience in our favorite action films.
As he recalls, “I remember when I had my open-heart surgery, the third one, which was just a few years ago just before we started Terminator 6. I was really freaking out. I woke up and all of a sudden the doctors were in front of me saying, ‘I’m so sorry, but it was unlike what we planned.’”
At first, the plan was to have a simple, non-invasive procedure, but things went south when the doctors made a mistake, and he started bleeding internally. “They had to open me up very quickly to save my life.”
But what’s incredible is how he handled it. Instead of getting stuck in the “what ifs” and the past, he decided to switch gears and focus on getting out of that hospital bed. He shared, “The bottom line is, you cannot roll the clock back. It was a disaster. I was in the middle of a disaster. So now how do I get out of it? You have to shift gears... Collect yourself, shift gears, and say, ’Okay what I need to do now is get out of this hospital.’”
To make his comeback, Arnold started small. It began with just getting up and walking ten steps, and then he slowly expanded to circling the nurses’ station, and soon enough, he was taking longer walks. He even called in his buddies for support, and they cheered him on as he made his way through those hospital hallways. He joked, “I looked like an idiot waddling around in the hallways.”
Arnold had a strong drive to get back to his exercise routine and training because he had Terminator 6 on the horizon. He needed to be in top physical shape for the demanding role. His winning formula was a positive attitude, a clear plan, and a solid support system. As he put it, “I had a positive attitude, I knew exactly how I was gonna get there, I had the support system — because none of this we can do by ourselves — and when I started shooting Terminator 6, I was all back together again.”
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s story is all about bouncing back from life’s curveballs. It’s a reminder that with a can-do attitude, a plan, and the support of friends, you can conquer even the most challenging setbacks and come back stronger than ever.
