Dakota Johnson Revealed How “Psychotic” It Was Making “Fifty Shades of Grey”
Dakota Johnson, alongside her costar Jamie Dornan, filmed one of the steamiest book adaptation trilogies, Fifty Shades of Grey. Dakota wanted to promote the movies the right way, so she couldn’t truthfully talk about her filming experience. But recently, she finally pulled back the curtain and revealed what it was like being on the other side of the screen.
The Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy ultimately catapulted Dakota Johnson into a huge Hollywood success.
Dakota was 23 years old when she signed the contract for the Fifty Shades of Grey franchise, and the entire experience was scary for her.
She became a well-known name in Hollywood, and despite it being weird filming the movie and all the steamy scenes, she’s aware that it was great for her career.
Johnson found the whole process to be “psychotic.”
Dakota revealed that she signed up to do a very different version of the film they ended up making. According to her, this was partly because of the author of the books, Erika, as she had a lot of creative control and just demanded that certain things happen.
“There were a lot of different disagreements. I haven’t been able to talk about this truthfully ever, because you want to promote a movie the right way, and I’m proud of what we made ultimately and everything turns out the way it’s supposed to, but it was tricky,” Dakota admitted.
If she had known how chaotic things would’ve been, Johnson wouldn’t have taken on the role.
When she was asked whether she regrets shooting the films, Dakota revealed: “No. I don’t think it’s a matter of regret. If I had known at the time that’s what it was going to be like, I don’t think anyone would’ve done it. It would’ve been like, ‘Oh, this is psychotic.’ But no, I don’t regret it.”
Dakota also shared that she even had to rewrite some scenes the night before shooting, and the cast sometimes even had to film different versions of each scene to appease both Erika and themselves.
Dakota revealed that her costar Jamie Dornan, who played Christian Grey, is like a brother to her.
Despite rumors from the set circulating that Dakota and Jamie had a supposed feud, Johnson revealed that there wasn’t a time she and her costar didn’t get along. “I know it’s weird, but he’s like a brother to me. I love him so, so, so much. And we were really there for each other. We had to really trust each other and protect each other,” she revealed.
She also revealed that they “were doing the weirdest things for years” and that they needed to be a team.
