Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi Renew Vows and Share 15 Years of Enduring Love: “We Don’t Fight, We Are Madly in Love”
It was love at first sight for Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi. Their relationship made us realize how strong a loving bond can get year after year, and we really admire it. As she and her wife, Portia de Rossi, were celebrating de Rossi’s 50th birthday, little did she know something big was coming.
Love has its own way of showing up.
Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi first met in 2000, and their love was almost immediate. DeGeneres had no idea how the Ally McBeal actress felt because de Rossi had not yet come out as a gay woman. After 3 years, the couple eventually admitted their affection for one another, and things progressed fast after that.
“She is the kindest, most generous, most loving, loyal, trustworthy person I have ever known. She’s a very special human being. Some of it sometimes rubs off on me,” de Rossi said of her wife in an interview. And DeGeneres claimed that de Rossi was her soulmate.
The loving couple tied the knot 15 years ago.
The couple was married in 2008, the year that gay marriage became legal in California, and they have been together ever since. They wed in a small ceremony at their home in Los Angeles. Among the 19 guests at the special event were DeGeneres’s mother, Betty DeGeneres, and Rossi’s mother, Margaret Rogers, who had flown in all the way from Australia.
Recently, de Rossi had a fiftieth birthday party, which was a tad different from what we’re used to having.
The couple and a few of their loved ones met on January 31st, for what most people believed was de Rossi’s 50th birthday celebration. The event, however, evolved into a tender ceremony honoring the couple’s 14+ years of marriage, and it was officiated by their close friend, Kris Jenner.
In a clip, de Rossi can be seen, once again, donning the stunning Zac Posen wedding gown she wore for their wedding in 2008. With her immaculate off-white, halter-neck wedding dress, which has an Old Hollywood vibe thanks to its satin finishes and billowing tulle skirt, the once-again bride made her guests loudly gasp.
“We don’t fight, we’re madly in love.”
Many friends and family members attended the unexpected vow renewal, including Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston, Carol Burnett, Courteney Cox, Katy Perry, Melissa Etheridge, Orlando Bloom, Meghan Markle, and Prince Harry.
The surprises kept coming after that. In order to formally announce the renewal, Jenner, 67, entered the room dressed in a white coat and knee-high leather boots. She stated, “These 2 are couples goals and continue to amaze me with how cute they are together, a match made in heaven.”
The bride then took everyone’s breath away with a heartfelt speech. “Surprise!” de Rossi joked. “You don’t have to say anything at all but when I was thinking about what would make my birthday really special, apart from being with family and friends, it was reminding you that you’re the most important thing in the world to me.”
