For her 43rd birthday, the singer, actress, and mom of 3, Jessica Simpson, decided to break free from the glitz and glamour by sharing a makeup-free selfie on social media. However, this seemingly innocent gesture has stirred up quite a storm, and while some praised her raw beauty, others were left furious.

“43 makeup free (kinda. Ha. I did curl my lashes.)” is what Jessica wrote in her birthday post on Instagram.

In the picture, Jessica absolutely glowed as she flashed a heartwarming smile at the camera. Her signature blonde hair was slicked back flawlessly, adding to her overall charm. Trendy hoop earrings and a dazzling bejeweled necklace added a touch of sparkle, and her vibrant red top perfectly completed the look.

Opinions among her fans were divided after seeing the post.

“What’s your skincare routine!?” one of her fans commented on her photo, most likely impressed by her glowing skin.

Another fan added, “You’ve never needed makeup. Beautiful as always, Happy Birthday!”

Others, while still impressed by her beauty, didn’t quite agree with how she labeled the picture as “makeup-free.” “Beautiful, but not make up free. Mascara, lip gloss, and concealer is not makeup free,” is how most of the comments read on the post.

Another fan believes what she did is irresponsible, “You look lovely, but please don’t lie about not wearing makeup! You can see the clumpiness of your mascara. It’s irresponsible to put this message out there, as many in the comments are wondering why they don’t look this way makeup-free.”

A concerned mom also expressed her opinion, “This makes me sad for my young daughter growing up with social media.”

Just a few days earlier from posting her photo, Jessica expressed her worries about what editing photos tells her daughters.

Simpson shared during the interview that she finds herself often questioning how she wants to raise her daughters. And one situation, when she was pressured to post a picture on social media, made her realize how she succumbed to social expectations and didn’t like a lot what that did to her or her daughters.

“I was going to post a photo because everybody’s down my neck, Jessica, you need to post, Jessica, you need to post. I’m like, OK,” she shared. “Then I go to post, and I’m like, oh, but let’s go to the FaceApp.”

“I’m like, Oh, that makes it look a little bit better. Oh, that makes it a little bit better. What has done that to me? What is that doing to my daughter? What we’re doing on social media is creating this idea of what is beautiful and setting up our lives artificially — to look good for who?” Jessica explained.

Nowadays, many celebrities do not always hide behind makeup when posting photos. In fact, some stars even show up makeup-free on the red carpet, like Lady Gaga at this year’s Oscars.
