Lady Gaga’s Respect Toward the Elderly Is Something We Can All Learn From

Despite the huge difference between eras, Lady Gaga has unexpected friendships and partnerships with many elders in showbiz. And in that lies more and more proof that she really cares about all those people and loves and supports them in everything they do. This actually keeps them on their toes and stimulates them in a significant way, allowing them to do so many things at their age so that they simply can become a symbol of hope for millions of fans.

We at Bright Side have found some prime examples that show the famous star’s warm, kind, and loving human side.

Honoring and safeguarding Liza Minnelli on stage at the Academy Awards

Liza Minnelli is now 76 and rarely makes public appearances. Nevertheless, she joined Gaga onstage at the Academy Awards to announce this year’s Best Picture winner. Minnelli was in a wheelchair during the ceremony, but Gaga treated the star without robbing her of her dignity. She gave her a moment in the spotlight stepping back and letting Minelli have her moment with the audience bursting in applause. “You see that? The public, they love you,” said Gaga.

Liza Minnelli laughed, looking at her notes and it could be heard saying, “Oh yes, now what am I... I don’t understand.” Gaga smiled warmly, held her hand, and said: “I’ve got it.” Gaga leaned into Minelli and whispered once again, “I got you,” to which Minnelli replied, “I know, thank you.” When it was time to announce the winners, Gaga carefully checked that Minnelli was ready to open the envelope and let her announce CODA’s win on her own.

Viewers around the globe were impressed by the way Gaga supported Liza on stage. They admired her for gently guiding the Hollywood legend and not being demeaning in any way. Gaga’s moving the ceremony and safeguarding Minnelli’s dignity shows what a good heart she has, as one person tweeted. It was a real lesson in how to facilitate older people while honoring who they are, and how to support them without making the situation patronizing or awkward.

Leaving in tears after performing a tribute to her longtime friend, Tony Bennett

The 95-year-old Tony Bennett was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2021. He then retired from performing, but together with Lady Gaga, they have won 2 Grammy nominations. Unfortunately, due to his condition, he wasn’t able to accept the invitations and join his beloved duet partner for her Grammy performance. It was decided that Gaga would perform on her own to represent them both.

After performing a tribute to her longtime friend, Gaga left in tears. She sat on the edge of the stage and cried, placing her hand on her shoulder in the place where Bennett should be. Earlier Gaga revealed how music can really help people suffering from the disease, saying, “When jazz begins ... this man lights up in a way that is such magic. Music is magic. Music is a miracle.” And Bennett added, “Life is a gift, even with Alzheimer’s.”

Showing all her love and respect to June Brown on the Graham Norton show

June Brown and Lady Gaga met on The Graham Norton Show in 2013. And the pop star was really delighted to see the soap icon. “I am a really big fan of yours. You are so fabulously dressed. I am honored to be sitting next to you,” said Gaga. She then took a sip from Brown’s glass to see “what those genes are,” and even treated her book as a piece of art, wanting to wear it as a fabulous hat.

Brown revealed that later, Gaga asked her out to a nightclub to go dancing. But Brown had to refuse because she was doing Piers Morgan the next day. Speaking to the Daily Star, she said that she found Gaga very funny, intelligent, and down-to-earth. It’s only when she went in front of the press that she puts the Gaga persona on. Behind the scenes, she shows herself from a completely different angle, showing all her love and respect to anyone she interacts with.

Many fans called the 2 stars meeting an iconic moment. Others even called it an iconic duo, mentioning how well they understood each other. They were certainly on the same wavelength. In the comments, people wrote it was one of the most classic interviews, one of the greatest moments in Graham Norton’s history. And thank goodness this one will never disappear and will stay in our hearts forever.

It just allows us to gain whole new respect for Lady Gaga. But what about you? Do you have any inspiring stories about how your love and support helped your elders and brightened their day? Please share your stories with us in the comments below.
