Today, Kate Middleton is not only admired for her delicate beauty and elegance, but she is also recognized as the most influential style icon in all of England. The press has referred to this particularity as “The Kate Effect.” But have you ever wondered how the Duchess of Cambridge dressed before she became a royal? Sure, it’s true that as a royal it’s easy to have access to great clothing and amazing shoes. However, Kate Middleton already had a rocking style before anyone even started to call her a duchess.

And to prove this, Bright Side compiled a list of the most stylish outfits Kate Middleton ever wore before she joined the royal family. There’s no doubt that she was already developing all the qualities needed to become the queen of fashion and style that she is today.

1.

This picture was taken in June 2005. Kate is wearing jeans, a timeless modern-classic garment that never goes out of style.

2.

Again, this was taken in June 2005. Kate Middleton looked radiant on the day of her graduation from St. Andrews University in Scotland where she obtained a master of arts degree in art history. It was there where she met Prince William.

3.

A couple of months later, in August 2005, a stylish Kate Middleton was seen at a polo match wearing low-rise jeans, a brown blazer, and a hat as the perfect accessory to bring out her good looks.

4.

Then, in November 2005, you could see her wearing light-washed jeans and a matching blue blazer that contrasted perfectly with her hair color. The picture was taken when she was visiting London’s Spirit of Christmas Fair.

5.

Fast forward to June 2006. The future Duchess attended a polo match as she was enjoying the English summer. She was wearing a colorful knee-length dress for the occasion.

6.

Kate has always known how to make the most of any kind of garment, no matter how simple it is. Proof of that is this picture, which was taken in July 2006. She was wearing low-rise white pants and a beige sweater. Sometimes less is more — if you know how to combine your clothes, that is!

7.

Spring is always a fashionable time of the year. Look at Kate Middleton back in March 2007, totally rocking the bourgeois-bohème look with high boots and a stylish beret that reminds us of the sixties. We love it!

8.

Later that year, in May 2007, she was photographed on her way to work when she was an accessory buyer at Jigsaw, an extremely popular and prestigious brand of clothing and accessories based in England. This time, she managed to pull off an amazing mix of styles that made her look both sophisticated and relaxed at the same time.

9.

This was taken in June 2007. And it confirms, once again, that jeans — those faithful companions that are always there for us when our closet seems to be exhausted — were an essential garment of the future Duchess of Cambridge.

10.

Let’s fast forward again to July 2008. The soon-to-be Duchess of Cambridge arrived at the wedding of Lady Rose Windsor and George Gilman that took place in the beautiful Queen’s Chapel located in the very heart of London next to Waterloo Bridge.

11.

It’s now June 2008. Kate Middleton, once again, chose the perfect outfit to wear to a polo match that she attended to see her then-boyfriend, Prince William, play with his team.

12.

This was taken in June 2009. Kate Middleton was, yet again, pulling off an impressive look that relied on its simplicity. There is no doubt she totally rocked the denim pants, which seem to be one of her favorite garments, probably because of their versatility.

13.

This was taken in August 2009. Suddenly, something had changed. Away went the jeans. Kate Middleton was now wearing an outfit that only royals can pull off with such ease. It’s like she was an innate royal.

14.

It’s now the summer of 2010, July to be exact. Kate was wearing a casual summer dress, but somehow, it made her look even more elegant. We love the combination with the platform shoes she wore.

15.

Now it is October 2010. Kate Middleton and Prince William were spotted together when they arrived at a wedding. She was wearing a beautiful sapphire blue dress combined with a blazer and black stiletto heels that stole the show.

16.

And finally, we’ve reached one of the highlights of the many royal events. On November 16th, 2010, Kate Middleton and Prince William announced their engagement. The so-called little blue dress that the Duchess of Cambridge wore became an instant hit. So much so that it was sold out within 24 hours of the announcement.

17.

Almost 10 years after the royal wedding, in March 2020, the Duchess of Cambridge still amazes us with her beauty, charisma, elegance, and sense of style that will probably never be met by anyone else.

What do you think about the evolution of Kate Middleton’s closet? Do you prefer the way she dressed when she was younger or the royal looks that she knows how to pull off like a natural? Post your favorite Middleton outfits in the comments!
