“People Don’t Talk About This,” Anne Hathaway Gets Real About Postpartum Recovery
Besides being a prominent Hollywood A-lister, Anne Hathaway, 40, is mom to sons Jonathan, 7 and Jack, 3, with husband Adam Shulman. In a revealing interview, the actress recently discussed the misconceptions surrounding the demanding nature of the post-pregnancy journey emphasizing that it is anything but a simple or effortless experience.
According to the mother of two, the notion of a quick postpartum snap back is a misleading statement. “People don’t talk about this, and it really made me feel better when I found out about it. It takes three years for your body to fully recover from a pregnancy. I didn’t snap back. I want to be very, very clear about that,” She disclosed.
“With my second, it took every minute of those three years. Let your body be a body. There’s nowhere to get to. It’s just now. Be present and take care of yourself and don’t set expectations,” the actress went on saying.
In addition to that, the actress went on sharing her insights on getting older. According to Hathaway, the process of aging is highly individual, and it’s time we refrain from constantly questioning women about it. “Aging is just another word for living. And what you do with it from there is personal and up to you. I feel great — I feel better than I did in my twenties because I’m taking much better care of myself,” she shared.
Hathaway also believes that each decade brings unique challenges and requirements. “In my 30s, [...] I couldn’t lead the life that I wanted while drinking. And in my 40s I’m finding I have to support myself differently nutritionally. I want to go back and talk to my 25-year-old self who felt like she didn’t have to do anything and just be like, ’Oh honey, honey, there’s a whole other world out there, and it tastes like an avocado,’” the actress noted.
On a different note, the Princess Diaries star expressed that at this moment, many people are embracing risks when it comes to fashion. Hathaway believes there are multiple ways to approach it, emphasizing that there is no need to conform to a particular standard; one should simply be themselves, and this brings a sense of delight.
She also added that her own stylist, Erin Walsh, shares the belief that fashion is a form of self-expression, and that the trust she places in Erin enables her to feel more adventurous. They maintain a lighthearted attitude towards it, recognizing that life is not a rehearsal but the real thing.
Furthermore, the actress reflected on her youth when she was given many opportunities but did not always know how to fully appreciate them. There were moments when she felt self-conscious in certain outfits and struggled to find joy in her attire. However, she currently selects clothing that brings her joy and wears them with gratitude, finding that this approach seems to be effective.
Although worldwide success comes with some perks, it also has a downside. Constant scrutiny of celebrities means that there will always be something for people to criticize, particularly when it comes to body image. And this is how Hathaway has learned how to wisely shut down comments about her body.
