Good to know, I usually remove the tail tho, it hurts my head if I keep them for too long
Why You Ought to Stop Sleeping With a Ponytail

Every girl cares about the way her hair looks, and this is explained by the fact that hair is an important part of our identity. And while we can spend a fortune on different hair products to look beautiful, we should pay closer attention to certain things that are a part of our daily routine that could be causing real harm to our hair.
Bright Side has learned that sleeping with a ponytail is one of these aforementioned harmful things and we have an explanation for it in this article. Additionally, you’ll get some cool tips on how to take care of your hair as a bonus feature at the end.
It can cause hair loss.
Wearing a ponytail puts pressure on the root of your hair, and it becomes even worse when you sleep because you move your head around. This, as the American Academy of Dermatology claims, can cause strands of your hair to break or fall out.
It could change the look of your hair.
Apparently, as a result of this loss of hair, there could be noticeable thinning, especially around your hairline. This is because the ponytail elastic creates friction while you sleep, and tight hairstyles like this one could lead to hair breakage. This may make your strands frizzy, dry, and damaged.
But if you stop sleeping with a ponytail, your hair will look as good as before over time.
It could even lead to a medical condition called alopecia.
Alopecia is a condition where hair is lost from all or some parts of the body. Constant pulling can cause this since it can damage your hair follicles. And according to the British Association of Dermatologists, this has the potential to lead to the development of bald patches.
Bonus: what you can do instead to have healthy hair
- Let your hair fly free or go with a loose braid, and it can even improve the way they look.
- Go to sleep with dry hair. It’s at its most delicate and vulnerable while it’s wet, so it can be easily damaged.
- Chose the right pillowcase. Silk pillowcases will allow your hair to glide around with ease, thus causing absolutely no tension or breakage.
- Keep moisture in the bedroom. Dry air can make your hair dry too, so use a humidifier to protect it.
What are your secrets to keeping your hair healthy and beautiful?
