Carolyn and Andrew Clark were over the moon to welcome their baby girl, Audrey, on March 17th. Besides the joy of expanding their family, this birth was extra special given that no daughters were born on Andrew’s side of the family for well over 13 decades.

No female births since 1885

Carolyn admits that she was left astonished when Andrew told her about his family’s particularity. She recalls asking, ’’What do you mean?’’ and then pointing out that ’’it’s a 50-50 chance’’ with every child born. And he replied, ’’No, legitimately, we have not had a girl in our direct line in over 100 years.’’

Andrew’s family also confirmed the news, explaining that while his “uncles and cousins have had girls,” there has not been a girl in his lineage since the end of the 19th century.

The couple wished to have a daughter.

The couple already had a 4-year-old son named Cameron when they were trying to have another child. Carolyn admitted that they were hoping for a girl.

Following 2 miscarriages, the couple discovered that Carolyn was pregnant again. And at that point, they didn’t have a preference for the gender of the baby. They were just grateful to be expecting again and were hoping for a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby.

The moment of the big reveal.

In September, during a gender reveal party with their family and friends, the Clarks learned that they were having a baby girl. Everyone present was served cookies, and the color of the frosting inside revealed that a girl was on the way.

Carolyn noted, ’’We kept it a secret for ourselves as well. So I just assumed it was going to be blue in the center of the cookies.’’

Following a countdown, Andrew, Carolyn, and their guests took a simultaneous bite of the cookies and were elated to see pink, confirming that they were expecting a baby girl. Carolyn recalled, ’’Everyone was just screaming and jumping in disbelief.’’

Given that this was a first in 138 years for them, Andrew admitted that it was “really hard to come up with a name” because ’’we’ve never thought of a girl name before.’’

Their baby is a blessing regardless of the gender.

On March 17, the couple’s baby girl, Audrey, was born, bringing the family an immense amount of joy. Carolyn stated that her daughter’s arrival was even more meaningful because she was worth the wait and all the struggles they had faced.

The beaming mom noted, ’’We’re so happy that she’s finally here and, once again, that she’s healthy and that everything went well with the delivery.’’
