Courteney Cox Revealed Her Experience Filming the Birth Scene in “Friends” Amidst 7 Miscarriages

Behind the scenes of Friends, Courteney Cox was dealing with an emotional struggle that many of her fans were unaware of. Having experienced 7 miscarriages prior to filming the iconic birth scene on the show, Cox had to put on a brave face and hide her pain from the public eye. Her story is eye-opening because she shows that even the most funny and beloved characters can be going through unimaginable hardships below the surface.

Everyone went through hard times, and so did Cox.

As any fan of Friends knows, Monica Geller’s strong preference for cleanliness is very similar to Courtney Cox’s own preferences in real life. But there’s one more thing that the actress could relate to in her sitcom character.

She could relate to her character’s difficulty in starting a family, as she went through a challenging time in her own personal life after experiencing multiple miscarriages. In an earlier interview, the actress opened up about this experience.

But she had to put her personal struggles aside to give her fans one of the most beloved Friends scenes ever.

In a 2004 interview, Cox said, “I remember one time, I’d just had a miscarriage and Rachel was giving birth.” The beloved and one of a kind Monica Geller expressed that it was a challenging time for her, saying, “It was like that same time. It was terrible having to be funny.”

But every cloud has a silver lining.

After marrying David Arquette in 1999, Courteney Cox experienced a total of 7 miscarriages due to antibodies that were attacking the fetus. She later found out she had the MTHFR gene mutation, which increases the risk of blood clots that can lead to miscarriage.

After undergoing 2 rounds of IVF, she welcomed her daughter Coco in 2004, just before turning 40. Interestingly, Courtney Cox was pregnant with her during the final season of Friends. You can see Coco in the photo below.

She mentioned that getting pregnant was not an issue for her, but maintaining the pregnancy was difficult. To address this, she turned to in vitro fertilization (IVF) and also gave herself shots of heparin, a blood thinner, and took baby aspirin.

Cox has also used her personal experience to shed light on her pregnancy journey by starring in the series Nine Months with Courteney Cox, where she follows expectant mothers during their pregnancy.

Now, after experiencing her own personal struggles, Cox is enjoying her life and continues to inspire others with her resilience and determination. Her journey toward motherhood serves as a powerful reminder that there is always hope, even in the face of adversity. As she moves forward, Cox’s story is a source of inspiration and encouragement for all those who are facing their own challenges and striving toward a brighter future.
