Pumuckl, a pony, is smaller than many dogs. He is a therapy pony who hops into his mother’s van and makes trips to see senior citizens. Since Pumuckl is a Shetland pony and measures about 20 inches (50.8 cm) tall, he is probably the world’s smallest horse.

He may soon have his name written in the Guinness Book of Records.

His family didn’t expect him to be this small forever.

Carola Weidemann and her family live on a large farm in Breckerfeld, Germany along with 2 dogs, some horses, and several mini Shetland ponies. So when she bought Pumuckl in 2021, she expected he would be the same height as the other ponies, which stand approximately 27 inches (70 cm) tall. However, Pumuckl stopped growing at around 20 inches (50 cm).

Due to his size, he has some privileges at home.

According to Britain’s Shetland Pony Club, most mini Shetland ponies should weigh about 264 pounds (120 kg), and Pumuckel weighs about 77 pounds (35 kg). Pumuckl is smaller than Weidemann’s dogs. He is allowed inside the house, unlike the other ponies, and can eat breakfast right in the kitchen. When it’s time to visit nursing homes, Pumuckl enters the car on a ramp, Weidemann fastens him to the passenger seat, and they start driving.

A request for entry into the Guinness Book of Records

Pumuckl’s owner, Carola Weidemann, said that she never thought about him that way. They have always known that Pumuckl is something special. A visitor to the stable gave her the idea of ​​trying an entry in the Guinness Book of Records — as the smallest pony in the world (from Poland) has, so far, measured 56.7 cm (1ft 10 in) at the shoulder. “Pumuckl measures about 50,” says Weidemann.
