Having a Strong Mother Can Turn You Into a Strong Woman

Curiosities

Taking care of us 24/7, spending sleepless nights by our beds when we’re sick, and comforting us when we feel down — that’s what mothers do for their daughters. This kind of love and bond between a mother and a daughter is strong, and it also makes women strong individually, because mothers can teach their daughters countless invaluable lessons.

You learn to be independent.

When you look at your mom, you see a strong woman who can do anything on her own. Of course, there’s no shame in asking for help. Still, your mother seemed to know how to juggle raising you, running a household, and maybe even build her career.

And she knows how to keep a healthy balance between all of those components too, without harming her physical or mental health. All her strength and wisdom makes you want to be like her and to strive to achieve the level of independence that she has.

Independence isn’t just about what you do. It’s also about what’s inside your head. Your mother doesn`t impose her opinions and beliefs on you. She lets you think for yourself and make decisions on your own. So you learn to rely on your own judgement and not follow the crowd.

You learn to not give up.

As strong as anyone can be, there are still rough patches in everyone’s lives from time to time. And you notice when your mom is going through some hard times, even if she tries to hide it so that you don’t have to worry about her. But then you also see her deal with her problems and go on living her life. So you learn to be strong and persevere when difficulties come your way.

You learn to value and love yourself.

Strong people know their value, and they don’t let anyone tell them they’re worth less than they really deserve. So if someone criticizes you for no good reason, you know from your mother’s example that it’s not worth it to get sad and discouraged. You learn to believe in yourself, to love yourself, and to say “no” to anyone that wants to undermine your self-worth.

You know that you don’t have to be strong all the time.

Strong mothers can be strict, but they will also show you their soft side. When you need advice, or a shoulder to cry on, she’ll be there by your side to support you every step of the way. Or seeing your mother cry herself will show you that it’s okay to get upset and to want to let it all out when emotions are overflowing.

You know life isn’t easy.

Your mom doesn’t shield you from the harsh reality of life. Being a woman isn’t easy — your opinions and decisions can often be discounted, and sometimes you have to work extremely hard to prove yourself to someone. Your mother knows that, and she’s learned to stand up for herself and fight back if necessary. And she teaches you to do the same.

You learn what it means to love someone.

Good mothers love their children unconditionally. And sometimes they even have to make sacrifices because of that. She stays up all night by your bed when you’re sick, or worries about you when you’re heartbroken or in trouble. You see how much she cares about you, and that teaches you to care about others.

You learn to create your own happiness.

Instead of passively waiting for something good to happen, your mom teaches you to actively explore life, or even create something positive on your own. She has learned to find happiness, even in the smallest things in her busy life, and she teaches you to see and enjoy those things too.
