It has been 24 years since the release of Titanic. But it’s still among the favorite films of all time for many people. The generation that saw Titanic when they were teenagers or children are now adults. Saoirse Ronan, Emma Stone, and Taylor Swift still watch this film again and again and love it.

Today, we at Bright Side want to remember the key characters of the film and see how much the actors have changed.

Rose DeWitt Bukater — Kate Winslet

The role of Rose won Kate Winslet her first Oscar nomination. In 2009, Winslet got an Oscar for her role in The Reader. The actress was able to recreate the story of love between a teenager and a former concentration camp guard.

The actress is totally okay with appearing on-screen without makeup or with unwashed hair. Winslet insisted on looking as natural as possible in her role in Mare of Easttown. In 2022, Avatar 2 is going to be released, starring Winslet.

Caledon Hockley, Rose’s fiancé — Billy Zane

Billy Zane was born to a family of Greek immigrants. He became famous back in 1989 for the role of Hughie in Dead Calm. Most of the time, Zane portrayed antagonists and was nominated for Best Villain at the MTV Movie Awards for his part as Hockley in Titanic. After that, Zane didn’t appear in any other big movies.

Right now, he’s working on Waltzing With Brando, where he plays Marlon Brando himself.

Ruth, Rose’s mother — Frances Fisher

After the success of Titanic, the actress has appeared in roles as mothers, like, for example, in Laws of Attraction in 2004, and Holidate in 2020.

The actress is still in the movie industry, and in 2021, Netflix is going to release season 4 of The Sinner with Fisher in it. Also, in 2021, Grace and Grit will be released, where she portrays the mother of the main character.

Titanic’s captain — Bernard Hill

After his role in Titanic, Bernard Hill portrayed Philos in The Scorpion King. You might also have seen him in Gothika. The most memorable role Hill took on was King Theoden in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. He is the only actor that was in more than 1 film that earned 11 Oscars.

The most recent role 74-year-old Hill took on was in Golden Years, where he portrayed a bank robber.

The ship’s builder, Thomas Andrews — Victor Garber

Victor Garber often chooses good romantic comedies. He was in The First Wives Club and Legally Blonde with Reese Witherspoon.

Garber is good friends with actress Jennifer Garner, and he even conducted her marriage ceremony with Ben Affleck. The actor is also a godfather of their daughter. He continues to appear in comedies, and in 2020, Happiest Season was released, in which he portrayed a strict father.

Rich man, Bruce Ismay — Jonathan Hyde

After Titanic, Hyde took on many more supporting roles. The ones you might have heard of are in The Mummy and Ri¢hie Ri¢h. Despite his lack of screen time, the actor managed to make his roles very memorable. In Jumanji, he portrayed the father and the hunter.

Today, the actor is performing at the Theatre Royal in Windsor.

John Jacob Astor IV — Eric Braeden

At the age of 18, Eric Braeden and his family moved from Germany to the US. Since 1980, he’s been on the popular American series, The Young and the Restless, which first appeared on the small screen in 1973.

Aside from roles in TV series, Braeden loves sports and even won an athletics championship in Germany when he was young.

Officer Lowe, who helped drowning passengers — Ioan Gruffudd

Ioan Gruffudd got an actor’s education at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. He’s always had enough roles. In 2008, he portrayed Reed Richards in Fantastic Four and 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer. He also appeared in the successful series, Harrow, which has been renewed for season 3.

Margaret Brown — Kathy Bates

Even before the release of Titanic, Kathy Bates was known as a very interesting and talented actress. Her role in Misery in 1991 won her an Oscar. She also suffered from cancer but recovered and is now helping with research in these areas.

Jack Dawson — Leonardo DiCaprio

The actor became famous back in 1993 when he and Johnny Depp appeared in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape. That was the first time he was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe. And in 2016, after 5 nominations, he finally got his Oscar for his role in The Revenant.

Since 2014, DiCaprio has been helping environmental organizations and financing documentaries about climate change.

Fabrizio, Jack’s friend — Danny Nucci

The actor, just like his character in Titanic, is an Italian immigrant. Since the age of 14, he’s had some roles in various soap operas. After Titanic, he continued to have small parts but never became very famous. One of the most famous films he acted in was in Michael Bay’s The Rock. Today, he’s on 9-1-1 on Fox.

Lizzy Calvert, Rose’s granddaughter — Suzy Amis

Suzy Amis started her career as a photo model but then switched to film. She was in a famous 1993 western, The Ballad of Little Jo. She portrayed the main role of a girl that dresses as a man to survive in the Wild West. The film was good and Amis earned good reviews. But the biggest role for her was only around the corner. During her work on Titanic in 1997, she and James Cameron fell in love with each other.

In 1999, the couple got married and now have 3 children. Today, they live on a farm for organic foods, and they have chickens and cattle. Amis says that having such a farm unites the entire family.

How old were you when you first watched Titanic? Do you think that it’s an iconic movie and one of the best romantic films or are there are other good candidates?
