11 Beauty Secrets That Were Used by Old Hollywood Celebrities
Modern beauty secrets have come a long way, but old Hollywood celebs also knew some creative tricks for how to look awesome on camera. And even if you have a short forehead, there is a simple secret that Ingrid Bergman used.
We at Bright Side love learning different beauty hacks and decided to find out what 11 legendary female celebrities did to look flawless for us.
1. Ingrid Bergman shaved her forehead.
Bergman preferred an all-natural look and she even had to fight for it by refusing to change her hair, her brows, and her name, which was crucial for the movie industry. But there was one secret that she used to look gorgeous on screen. Ingrid shaved a centimeter off of her hairline in order to get a larger forehead.
2. Sophia Loren used olive oil as a daily treatment.
Sophia Loren is a legend and her beauty was recognized all over the world. To maintain it she included at least 2 tablespoons of olive oil in her food every day. Also, she regularly rubbed it into her skin to keep it shiny and added a few caps into her hot baths.
3. Marilyn Monroe applied 5 different shades of lipstick.
4. Joan Crawford chewed gum for a good-looking jawline.
Joan Crawford believed that chewing gum could firm up her jaw and help to get rid of the toxins under her chin. Besides, her cleansing procedure was like a ritual. She splashed her face 25 times with ice-cold water after every cleanse.
5. Audrey Hepburn used tweezers to make her eyelashes look gorgeous.
Audrey applied fresh Greek yogurt to her face. Then she left it for half an hour, before washing it off. Also, she loved eating potatoes, which have lots of vitamin C and antioxidants.
But one of the most well-known features was her baby-doll glance with fluffy eyebrows. To achieve this effect Audrey’s makeup artist defined her eyelashes with tweezers and just after that covered them in mascara.
6. Katherine Hepburn used sugar to exfoliate her skin.
Katherine Hepburn preferred a natural and minimalistic style including natural make-up. To achieve perfect skin, she exfoliated regularly. For this purpose, she used a mixture of sugar and a small amount of warm water. Then after exfoliating, she squeezed some lemon juice on her face and massaged it a bit into the skin. Then she finished with a splash of ice-cold water.
7. Marlene Dietrich shaved her eyebrows.
8. Vivien Leigh used a liner to draw outside her natural lip.
9. Grace Kelly accentuated her cheekbones.
Contouring has been used very intensively recently but it was invented a long time ago. Grace Kelly used it for her cheekbones. She put one shade underneath her cheekbones, and a slightly darker shade on the apples of her cheeks.
10. Greta Garbo used petroleum jelly on her eyelids.
For shiny expressive eyes, Garbo put dark eye shadow underneath a thin layer of petroleum jelly on her eyelids. As another trick, she also lined her eyes with a mix of charcoal pigment and petroleum jelly.
11. Gloria Grahame stuffed her mouth with cotton.
