Parents often look for a unique, meaningful, loving name for their babies, but the way they decide on one varies from family to family. Typically, new parents turn to a giant book of names. However, others are happy to just follow the family tradition and name their kids after their parents or grandparents. Celebrities, on the other hand, lean toward the avant-garde approach when it comes to naming their kids, which is why many of them have decided to break typical stereotypes.

That’s why today at Bright Side, we’d like to introduce you to 13 kids with unique names along with their celebrity parents’ reasons to name them in such an extravagant, but always meaningful way.

1. Tu Morrow

Rob Morrow (who acts in the show, Numb3rs) and Debbon Ayer named their daughter Tu. A familiar word might come to mind when combining her first name and her last name: “tomorrow.” Rob Morrow declared in an interview that opting for such an original name was a family tradition. In fact, Debon Ayer is pronounced like “debonair.” He even made a joke about naming a hypothetical future son Bone, resulting in “Bone Marrow.”

2. Apple

Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow named their daughter Apple. In a 2004 interview with Oprah Winfrey, the actress revealed that Chris Martin first came up with the idea. Gwyneth Paltrow thought the name was cute and sweet, so they went for it and decided to name their baby after the popular fruit.

3. Bronx Mowgli

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s son is named Bronx Mowgli. The Fall Out Boy bass player has never given a public explanation for why they named their son Bronx. He did, however, confirm that “Mowgli” is inspired in Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book, as well as Disney’s adaptation. Both protagonists are also named Mowgli.

4. Coco

Courteney Cox and David Arquette’s daughter is named Coco. The Friends actress declared to the press that the name served as a shortened version of her own name, Courteney Cox. Just like Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin, the Arquettes thought that the name reminded them of another sweet fruit, the coconut (which in Spanish is “coco”).

5. Memphis Eve

The Irish actress and model, Memphis Eve is Paul David Hewson and Alison Hewson’s daughter (yes, in case you were wondering, that’s Bono’s real name). U2’s lead singer said that his daughter’s name came from the word “seven” which was chosen because Eve was born on the seventh of July at 7 am. And if you look at the middle of the word, you can find the name, Eve.

6. North West

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West decided to name their first daughter North West. In addition to her first and last name, her parents call her Nori, like the Japanese seaweed. The couple continued the tradition of giving their children original names with their son, Saint; daughter, Chicago; and second son, Psalm.

7. Kingston James McGregor and Zuma Nesta Rock

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s kids are named after the couple’s favorite places in the world: Kingston, Jamaica, and Zuma Beach in Malibu, California. Their full names resulted in Kingston James McGregor and Zuma Nesta Rock.

8. Michael Joseph “Prince” Jackson Jr.

Michael Joseph Jackson Jr., better known as Prince, is the late Michael Jackson’s oldest son. The King of Pop decided to use a royal title and combine it with his own name along with the abbreviation of the name, Junior. Michael Jackson then named his second son Prince Michael Jackson II with similar elements as he combined his own name and a royal title. His daughter’s name is also far from being normal: Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson. Her name is a combination of her dad’s name and the French capital. We see a certain pattern emerging here...

9. Kyd

Téa Leoni and David Duchovny’s first son is named Kyd Miller. Kyd, which is similar to “kid,” might have been inspired by the name of the famous author, Thomas Kyd. Despite being a very original name, the actors’ son goes by his middle name, Miller.

10. Lea de Seine Shayk Cooper

Bradley Cooper and Irina Shayk decided to name their daughter Lea de Seine. The supermodel talked about her daughter’s name and its meaning and said it was inspired by the name of her grandmother from her father’s side, Galina. The second part of the name is a reference to the famous river that crosses Paris.

11. Bear

Bear Blu is Alicia Silverstone and Christopher Jarecki’s son. During an interview, Alicia Silverstone admitted that she considered up to 5 different names but her husband, Christopher, suggested she choose between Bear and Blu. Because she found both to be such sweet names, she decided to go with both and call their son Bear Blu.

12. Reign Aston Disick

Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick decided to name their third son Reign Aston. She confessed to already wanting to call their previous babies Reign, but in the end, they decided to name them Mason and Penelope. However, their third kid got the special name. She also declared that the alternative name they had in mind was Rain in case the baby had been a girl.

13. Bluebell Madonna

Geri Halliwell is Bluebell Madonna’s mother. The ex-Spice Girl explained that her daughter’s name was suggested by her own mother and Bluebell’s grandmother as a reference to the flower. On the other hand, Madonna is a reference to both the Virgin Mary and the famous pop singer who’s one of Geri’s idols.
