Priyanka Chopra Claps Back at Critics About Her Surrogacy and Reveals Why She Chose It

Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas received unfair criticism for using a surrogate when they announced the birth of their daughter, Malti Marie, in 2022. Chopra has since revealed that she had a medical need for surrogacy. So now, the actress has something to say to everyone who’s made mom-shaming a sport.

Their love won over all the obstacles.

Priyanka Chopra’s and Nick Jonas’s relationship is one of the most adorable love stories we know. Jonas had the guts to text the model in 2016, saying, “Several friends have told me that we should meet. What do you think about that?” And it worked because they communicated for at least 6 months after the singer took the initiative.

They could have ended their relationship because of their age difference (Chopra, 40, and Jonas, 30), distance, employment, and diverse cultural differences. Still, there was nothing that could separate them.

After dating for several years, the couple tight the knot.

In 2018, they got married, and in January 2022, Chopra and Jonas became parents for the first time when their surrogate daughter, Malti, was born. The first 100 days of Malti’s life were spent in the neonatal intensive care unit, but in May, she returned home to her devoted parents.

After they announced their surrogate daughter, many people decided to criticize her.

When receiving comments about her being a mom via surrogacy, Chopra confirmed that it was medically necessary for her. In an interview, she openly shared that she had medical complications and is “so grateful I was in a position where I could do this. Our surrogate was so generous, kind, lovely, and funny, and she took care of this precious gift for us for 6 months.”

She also directly addressed the ire she faced for choosing surrogacy. “You don’t know me,” Chopra said. “You don’t know what I’ve been through. And just because I don’t want to make my medical history or my daughter’s public doesn’t give you the right to make up whatever the reasons were.” She defiantly had a point here.

She shared about her daughter’s medical condition.

Malti was born early, a full trimester before her due date. She was born “smaller than my hand,” according to Chopra, who also said she was in the operating room when it happened. Her little daughter was so fragile that she required regular transport to California’s neonatal intensive care unit for about 3 months. Chopra remarked, “I didn’t know if she would make it or not.”

All this made her become a protective mother.

She added that she had developed a tough hide when people talked about her. “But it’s so painful when they talk about my daughter. I’m like, ‘Keep her out of it.’ I know what it felt like to hold her little hands when they were trying to find her veins. So no, she’s not going to be gossip.” Later, she explained that she’s been “really protective” because it’s not about her life only — it’s about her daughter’s too.

Being a mama always requires endless effort and dedication. Do you share Chopra’s views? What would you say to all the critics? Share your opinion in the comments.
