10 Celebs Who Were Living Their Normal Lives When They Were Given a Chance to Step Into the Spotlight
Making it to the world of fame is no easy feat. In fact, many aspiring artists try day and night to get noticed. However, there are plenty of superstars whose careers began as a result of pure luck. These celebs were fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time.
The Bright Side team brought together 10 people who were discovered by accident and turned from ordinary people into celebrities overnight.
1. Natalie Portman
At the age of 10, Natalie Portman was discovered by a modeling agent from Revlon in a pizza shop. She was a determined and driven child who disliked modeling and instead decided to pursue acting. She was cast as Mathilda in Luc Besson’s Léon: The Professional about a year later.
2. Angus Cloud
On a whim, Angus Cloud, best known as Fezco in Euphoria, became famous. A casting agent from HBO spotted him on a New York City sidewalk in Manhattan and offered him the role. Angus said that he didn’t want to give her his number because he believed it was a scam.
3. Harrison Ford
Harrison Ford first worked as a carpenter before he became an actor, as he wasn’t satisfied with the roles he was offered. One day, he got hired to build a door for George Lucas. It just so happened that Lucas was casting for his next movie, Star Wars.
4. Johnny Depp
At age 13, Depp started playing music in Miami and had no intention of becoming an actor. Instead, he wanted to be a musician. He struggled to make a living off of his music. Consequently, Nick Cage sent him on an audition for Nightmare on Elm Street.
5. Jennifer Lawrence
As a 14-year-old, Jennifer Lawrence was on vacation with her mother in New York City. A man working in the modeling industry asked them for her mother’s contact information. Later, he called and told her that modeling agencies were interested in meeting her daughter. Having thought about it, Lawrence decided that if they let her act, she’d sign a contract with them.
6. Rosario Dawson
In the 1990s, Rosario Dawson sat on her front porch and watched a commercial being shot outside her New York apartment building. By chance, director and screenwriters Harmony Korine and Larry Clark approached her and asked if she’d want to appear in a film. Ruby was her first part in Clark’s Kids.
7. Sarah Michelle Gellar
At age 4, Sarah Michelle Gellar was eating with her mother at a Manhattan restaurant when an agent spotted her. The agent asked her daughter if she would like to pursue a career in Hollywood. One week later, she was in the movie, An Invasion of Privacy.
8. Angie Harmon
The story of how Angie Harmon got her start in acting began while she was on a plane with David Hasselhoff. He offered her a role on Baywatch Nights, which she declined because of her lack of acting experience. 2 weeks later, she accompanied her friend who went on an audition for him. He recognized her and re-offered her the role of Ryan McBride.
9. Chris Pratt
Chris Pratt’s acting career was launched by Canadian-American actor and director Rae Dawn Chong. When he was 19 years old, Pratt worked as a waiter at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company and lived out of his truck until Chong offered him a role in Cursed Part 3.
10. Nick Jonas
At the age of 6, Nick Jonas accompanied his mother to the hair salon where he was overheard singing. Amazed by his voice, a woman suggested that he get a manager. Eventually, he was cast in A Christmas Carol and starred in Les Misérables in Concert, and The Sound of Music.
