There's way more in Harry Potter than this one. But a series that has 100s is friends.
10 Mistakes in Great Movies That Only the Most Attentive Viewers Can Spot
Making the films we love takes a monumental effort on the part of numerous people who work tirelessly to make sure everything comes out in the best possible way. This means that sometimes, in the midst of all the hustle and bustle of production, small continuity errors can occur that are not registered in the editing room.
At Bright Side, we are showing you some great movies with small mistakes that only very attentive observers are able to notice.
1. Home Alone
Home Alone is already a classic in the history of cinema thanks to the funny antics of Kevin, played by Macaulay Culkin. However, there’s a continuity error in the story. It’s difficult to spot if you are not very attentive, but it takes place while the main character is washing his clothes and places an orange bottle on top of the washing machine with the handle facing outward. When the camera changes angles, the bottle appears with the lid on in a different position.
2. The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The Lord of the Rings trilogy marked a before and after for fantasy cinema. But this ambitious franchise does not free it from making mistakes. Like, for example, in its second installment, when Faramir approaches the main hobbits, Sam’s blanket changes its position from one shot to another, and Frodo’s hair suddenly looks different.
3. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial
The farewell of Eliott and his alien friend is one of the most memorable scenes from E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. However, we were so busy crying that we didn’t notice the detail of when E.T. raises his finger to say goodbye, he does it with his right hand, although in the next shot he finds himself with his left hand up.
Curiously, this error was digitally corrected in the 2002 re-release.
4. The Avengers
The first Avengers movie started a journey that seems to have no end for crossovers in Marvel Studios. But it isn’t free from having certain mistakes, like when the reactor that holds Tony Stark’s character suddenly disappears at certain moments of the film, even when he wears the same shirt in shots where it was previously visible.
5. Matrix
The first Matrix movie was a success for science fiction lovers. That does not free it from having a small mistake that occurs in the scene where Neo is guided by Morpheus and his cell phone falls; in the first shot, you can see a crowded street that suddenly appears empty in the next cut.
6. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
In the first movie about the most famous wizard in the world, we can see, prior to Harry’s first flight with the broom, that Hermione has some very wavy locks on the side of her hair. However, in other shots, those waves are much smaller or don’t even appear at all.
7. Men in Black
The first Men in Black installment was a box office success that launched Will Smith to fame. The movie, however, does contain a small mistake in a scene where agents K and J have a conversation with Zed. There, you can see that Tommy Lee Jones crosses and stops crossing his legs between shots, without any apparent movement in between.
8. The Lion King
The Lion King is one of the most memorable and successful films in Disney’s modern history. In the film, when Nala is reunited with Simba and lets him know that he is king, Timon mocks the situation and leans on the middle of his friend Pumba’s nose. However, in the next shot, the meerkat’s hand appears higher than where he had originally rested it.
9. Alice in Wonderland
The new version of Lewis Carroll’s classic fairy tale adapted by Tim Burton turned out to be a great box office success. It has a glitch that happens very quickly, and it occurs when Alice escapes from her wedding to chase the white rabbit, and as she goes down the hole, the heels of her shoes change from scene to scene.
10. Batman: The Dark Knight
Batman: The Dark Knight set a great precedent for superhero movies, especially for Heath Ledger’s great performance as the Joker. At the beginning of the film, we can observe in a conversation Batman has with Commissioner Gordon that, when Batman appears, the woman accompanying the policeman turns around at a medium distance, and in the next shot, she appears much closer to the door.
Do you remember any other errors of this type, and do you think they affect the outcome of the film?
