10+ Stories That Have a “Wow” Finale

Curiosities

Many of us have had stories that started out quite ordinary, but at some point everything was turned upside down so that it was hard to believe it was really happening. We put together interesting and unexpected stories in this article.

  • A young man approached me in the street. He asked me for my phone to make a phone call. He seemed nice, so I gave it to him. He walked away and immediately returned. And in the evening, I’m surprised to receive a phone call from a “Boyfriend.”
I don’t have a boyfriend, and don’t have anyone in my phone under this nickname. It turned out to be the number of the guy who asked me to call earlier that day. It’s kind of cheeky, but funny. We’re going on a date tomorrow. © Caramel / VK
  • 3 years ago, I met a guy at a skating rink. He was a foreigner, we started dating. Then he returned home to the other end of the world. Since then, we have rarely seen each other, but we constantly called each other and tried to keep the relationship alive, although it wasn’t easy.
For his birthday, I decided to make him a surprise — I bought tickets and flew to him. I called him from the airport, and he picked up the phone and said, “Kate, I’m in your city! I’ve come to see you!” © Caramel / VK
  • In eighth grade, I fell head over heels in love with a girl. Everything was childishly sweet — exciting, a little scary, but very touching. We obviously liked each other, but we both pretended that nothing was going on. Sometimes after school we went for a walk, and in class I secretly slipped her notes of affection.
One day I dared to write her a confession, “You are the most beautiful. I can’t take my eyes off you. I love you.” But at that moment, the English teacher stormed into the classroom and announced a test. All the fuss, I grabbed a notebook, finished writing something and handed it in, and accidentally put the note in there.
In the evening, the teacher called me over and said, “I realize that you’re at a romantic age. But you’d better pay attention to your classmates. I’m old enough to be your mother.”
I wanted to say something back, but she continued, “I respect your feelings. But honestly, after this, I couldn’t check your work properly. How about this: I give you a good grade, and you don’t write me any more notes.” © SHCogwarts / VK
  • One day, in a noisy group of friends, I’m trying to impress a young man. Flirtatiously, I say:
    — Antony, don’t worry, I don’t remember the names of those I’m not interested in.
    The guy coldly replies:
    — I’m not Antony, I’m Sam.

  • My self-esteem at 15. I’m in a miniskirt.
    A boy:
    — Are you an athlete?
    — Yeah, how would you know?
    — You’ve got muscular calves.
That compliment made me wear nothing but pants until I was 35. I still cringe when someone says something about my legs. And he didn’t even say if it was good or bad, he just stated a fact. That’s how I took it. © ludacava
  • My little brother hitchhikes a lot. He was trying to hitch to Valdez, Alaska to run a half-marathon there before hitching to my parents’ house near Fairbanks. He gets picked up near Seattle by a woman.
They’re chatting, and my brother is telling her the story of how he rode his bike from Alaska to Argentina. The woman says her neighbor’s son had done the same thing. Turns out she was my parents’ next door neighbor. © discreet1 / Reddit
  • I walked into a new job on my first day. Walked up to a guy and introduced myself. He says, “No time to waste” and assigns me a few weird tasks and I start on them. I’d been working for an hour when my phone rings, and it’s from the job that I just started.
I answer and the guy on the phone says, “You are aware today is your first day?” I said, “Yes, I’m actually here, David gave me some stuff to do.” The guy on the phone says, “Who’s David?”
Apparently, a complete stranger just started telling me what to do, and I didn’t think twice about it. We had a pretty good laugh. © Unknown author / Reddit
  • I was job searching in my early twenties. I get to this job interview, and the guy didn’t know I was coming. He grudgingly walks me into his office and starts asking me questions. I had been on so many interviews, I just wasn’t in the mood for someone to make me feel like I wasn’t welcome.
He asks me why I want to work here and part of my answer is “I like to help people.” He responds with, “not true.” I am surprised, but I can tell this is going nowhere. The rest of the interview is formality, and I end with a sarcastic “sorry to bother you.”
I get back to my apartment, and I’m feeling down. I receive a voice mail asking where I was for my interview. They say if I am still interested to call back. I compare name, number and company with the business card I was given, and it turns out I was on the wrong floor.
I just walked into a random company and was given an interview. But yeah, I didn’t get either job. © adverb_adjective / Reddit
  • About 10 years ago, when I was a schoolgirl, I had a holiday at the sea in a camp and there I met my first love. Since then, I have tried to find him many times, but without success — I am from a city, he is from a village.
I recently moved in with a guy, and guess who his brother turned out to be? My first love.
Turns out he tried to find me many times too, but it didn’t work out. And now we suddenly meet after 10 years. Only now he has a wife, and I have his brother. © Overheard / Ideer
  • My life is full of twists and turns, my husband jokes that I’m like Forrest Gump. The last one has to do with my best friend. We’ve been friends since we were 6 years old, doing everything together. When I left for another country 17 years ago, she cried at the airport and said she would never see me again.
We lost contact. She had no Internet or phone, I tried to find her through social media — to no avail. A couple of years later, her brother wrote to me. It turned out she had been looking for me all this time too. He gave me her number, and we started chatting again. I jokingly suggested she apply for a visa. She said, “I’ve got chickens, who’s going to feed them?”
As time passed, she made up her mind. I filled out the application for her and forgot about it. Then my mom said someone was looking for me. I called back and found out they’d won. We squealed with joy, then cried. After many difficulties, I met them at the airport. We hadn’t seen each other for 15 years. We hugged and cried again. © Elena Ledoux / Quora
  • We ordered a prank for a friend — with actors, all serious. According to the scenario, we’re hanging out at his house, and the police come. And here we are, sitting at his place, and suddenly the “cops” turn up, start cuffing him. And he doesn’t say a word, doesn’t even resist!
The actors are already confused, don’t understand what to do. I shout, “Andy, why are they arresting you?!” And he is in tears, “I didn’t do it on purpose... Call my parents, tell them everything...”
In the elevator, he burst into tears. I had to confess that it was a joke. After that, Andy stopped talking to us. And what exactly he did “not on purpose,” we never found out. © Chamber 6 / VK
  • I went to the library just to skip some classes. I took an old philosophy book from the shelf, opened it, and there were a lot of pen notes in the margins. Someone clearly understands, comments, argues with the author, jokes, sometimes just shares their thoughts. Just like a dialogue, only one way.
I started reading not the book, but these notes, and got sucked in. I started answering, writing my own notes. Weeks go by, I see new notes from him or her. It became a sort of secret correspondence through the book.
A year passed. I went to the library one day — and there was a girl holding that very book and smiling. She says, “Are you the one with the green pen?” I nod. And she says, “I’m with the black one.”
We sat next to each other, talked for a couple of hours, and realized that we had been friends for a whole year without even knowing what we looked like. © SHCogwarts / VK
