A holiday is something long-awaited and pleasant. Sometimes during a holiday, unexpected events take place that remain in our memory forever.

  • My friend and I were 19 years old when our parents let us go abroad alone for the first time in our lives. We flew to Greece. We were riding on a bus, and suddenly they announced our hotel. We are about to get off, and the guide says, "Girls, the bus can't go further, so you'll have to walk."
They didn't explain us, where to go. So, we wandered for about 20 minutes with our suitcases. We went round all the hotels, but we couldn't find ours. We got connected to Wi-Fi in one of the venues and could at least use the navigator to see where we needed to go.
In the end, it turned out that our hotel had no signboard, and we had to go through the reception of the office that sells excursions and rents cars to get to the territory of the hotel. We also had to pay extra for the air conditioning in the room.
Then it turned out that the backyard and all other entrances of the hotel close at exactly midnight. Therefore, when we were taken by bus to the airport at night, my friend and I had to climb over the fence with suitcases. But we treated everything with humor, and even these troubles didn't spoil our holiday.
  • Went on holiday to Ibiza. I met a girl from my hometown. It turned out that she was my "wife" in daily care. Well, she's my wife in real life too now. © Chamber 6 | Anonymous Stories / Telegram
  • In Italy, we had a tour guide who was a real storyteller. She was always making up reasons why we should pay her. We wanted to walk around Rome on our own and refused to go on a tour. She didn't say a word, but she didn't look happy.
And later she made a performance in front of us. She came and started complaining that she had received a phone call and learnt terrible news. She said that tomorrow for some inexplicable reasons no public transport would work, and we wouldn't be able to get anywhere on our own. She described it for a long time with a tragic expression on her face.
We didn't believe her after she said, "There are still 5 free places on the excursion, hurry up." And there were 5 of us. In the evening, we approached the staff and asked if it was true that tomorrow there would be no public transport in the city. They said it was not true and explained in detail how to get to the subway and how to get to the center of Rome.
Then we had many more unpleasant situations like this with the guide. For example, she tried to convince everyone that there were no restaurants in Florence and that we could only have lunch at some friend of hers for triple the price.
  • My husband and I were at the sea together. One day he said, “Come out in an hour, I’ll text you the address, I’m preparing a surprise.” I’m all excited, come to the roof, see a table set up: fruit, cheese. I sit down, start eating, waiting for my husband.
Suddenly, a couple comes up to the roof, and the guy leads the girl to the table blindfolded. He says to her, “Surprise!” And then they both look at me bewildered. Here I realize, I must be on the wrong roof.
And at that moment, my husband shouts from the neighboring house, “Victoria, where are you? The crayfish is already cold!” I laughed and galloped off to him, apologizing on the way. © Mandarinka / VK
  • I had a difficult time in my life: I broke up with my boyfriend, followed my best friend around every day and complained to her about how much I missed him. At some point, she realized she couldn’t take it anymore. She came to me in the morning and said, “I can’t take it anymore! Pack your bags, and let’s take a trip to Turkey, we’re leaving soon!”
She wouldn’t accept “no,” so I packed everything in a few hours, and at night we flew to Turkey. There we met a nice group of people. We sat together in a restaurant, and my friend started to praise me — she said how cool I was and asked who was ready to make me happy and take my heart. I was a bit embarrassed, but a nice guy volunteered.
He started courting me. We fell in love, and then I found out that it was because of a friend that he decided to show his feelings for me. Now we’ve been together for 3 years, and we still can’t believe that our relationship started at a resort in Turkey — thanks to the words of my friend. © Caramel / VK
  • It was a long time ago, I went with my girlfriend to the sea. I wanted to look cool, so I asked my friend to lend me his favorite sunglasses. Not just any sunglasses, but some super expensive, branded ones. He blew dust off them, wiped them with a cloth every 10 minutes, in general treated them better than his girlfriend.
I could barely persuade him to let me wear them, I swore that I would cherish them as the apple of my eye, I was even ready to sleep in them, if only he would give them to me. He looked at me and said, “Don’t lose them, I beg you.” Well, the rest was classic. I came back from holiday without the glasses.
The next day after my arrival, I honestly confessed to my friend that I had lost them and bought him new same ones. He, of course, sighed, but seemed to forgive me. The incident seemed to be over, but recently I came across old photos from that holiday.
In one photo, I see myself waist-deep in water, smiling with all my mouth and enjoying life. And behind me, there is a seagull with something black in its beak. I look closely and it’s those sunglasses. © Not everyone will understand / VK
  • Once we went to the sea with my grandmother. She was already 70, but she had plenty of energy.
One day we decided to go to a water park, as why not, let it be a fun memory. We examined all the slides, and then my grandmother suddenly announced that she wanted to ride the highest and most extreme one. Of course, I tried to talk her out of it, but no way - this woman is afraid of nothing.
When it was her turn, she jumped down with a shout, "Watch this, kids!" I stood below and watched Grandma safely plunge into the water, followed by her dentures. Granny pulled them out of the water, put them back into her mouth, and went for a second run like nothing had happened. © Caramel / VK
  • Came with my future husband to meet his parents. His father was all positive, but his mother started to rant, "You've got to do this, you've got to do that."
I told her straightforwardly that I was on holiday and wanted to relax, not to work hard. And that if I wanted to work in the vegetable garden, I would go to my parents. They also have a big plot of happiness. © Hestia VM / ADME
  • My wife is pregnant. Unexpectedly, I got a bonus at work, and she and I decided to go on holiday while we still had a chance. I took a vacation, bought a new swimsuit for my wife and found tickets to Egypt. My wife kept telling me where she wanted to take photos on holiday.
The day of departure came. We are already at the airport, we've checked in, we are sitting, waiting for the flight. Suddenly, my wife takes my hand and says, "Nick, I want to smell the field in my hometown." I reply, "What field? Helen, what are you talking about?"
And she got hysterical, saying she wanted to go to the field, that's all. We had time to fight and cry. We lost a lot of money because the hotel had already been booked, and that same evening we went to my wife's hometown to smell the field. © Chamber 6 | Anonymous Stories / Telegram
  • We were on vacation and the summer house had a view of the sea. While everyone was sleeping, I snuck out and walked to the beach, it wasn’t that far. I didn’t take anything with me, I left my phone and everything back there, I wanted some solitude, just to enjoy the sea and the sound of waves in peace.
When I arrived, I took a deep breath and just laid down on the sand and closed my eyes and listened to the waves, when I opened them and looked up at the sky, I saw so many stars. They were shining so bright. It was magical.
I just kept watching the stars moving slowly as the earth rotates while listening to the waves as I was laying on the sand and just admired this amazing moment. It was beautiful. After a while, I hurried back into the house and slept. No one knows about it.
It’s a little secret I only have to myself. I was really sad at this phase of my life, but I don’t know why what happened gave me some kind of peace or comfort, but I felt so relaxed. It was a really good memory to look back on, it reminds me why I love summer so much. © One-Bug7353 / Reddit
  • I went abroad for vacation. While checking into the hotel, I was told that my husband was already waiting for me in the room. I was puzzled and asked to sort it out, because I wasn't married.
The receptionist and I go up to the room, and I am in shock, because I see a guy with whom I once had a fling. It was unforgettable, but we haven't spoken for 2 years.
Turns out his last name was the same as mine. And they mistakenly put him in my room by mixing up the rooms under our identical surnames. Imagine, I met him after so long, in a different country, in the same hotel. We have the same surname, and he was called my husband.
That same night, we had a marriage ceremony according to local customs. And today we found out that we are going to have a baby. © Ward 6 | Stories Anonymous / Telegram
  • In Turkey, I went to a café for lunch with my daughter and my hotel neighbor. The waiter came over and while taking the order, decided to make a “compliment” for some reason, like it was great to have a holiday as a family — grandmother, daughter, and granddaughter. I thought I’d die from embarrassment, because the “grandmother” was only 10 years older than me. © Larisa Prokopenko
