I knew a couple who did this because of financial issues. If they stayed married while her husband went into care, the carehome would take as much money as they can to cover his care leaving her with very little. If divorced they can't touch her money but can only use his pension and any other supplecments he has. She still visits and takes him places.
My sister married her late husband's brother. They just celebrated their 28th anniversary. He is a good man and she is very happy.
